Guangzhou - any mongering/social locations near "Science City"?

I had become very used to Shekou's compact restaurant and bar scene and being walking distance from work to hotel to (cough) "leisure" locations. But it seems I may be stuck mostly near the "Science City" area on an upcoming trip to GZ, with late evening finishes that mean a 40 minute metro ride into and out of the city centre is not possible most days, even with the new metro line/stations.

Can anyone say if there is there any evening/night-life near the "Science City" area? With or without mongering opportunities...

Not sure of hotel yet, but office is close to Doubletree/Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn.
