I was driving for Uber and Lyft and I can tell you that people will tip if they want to no matter what. They would even dish out cash. I know that totally defeats the purpose of using a cc or Octopus. But guess what? Maybe people don't have enough cash to pay for the fare and tip. But using cc or Octopus may enable customers to tip more. I myself don't usually tip unless the service warrants it. Tipping is not an entitlement.
