Jetlag - Cures so I can get to mongering

With my last few trips, I've tried and failed at punts after getting off the flights.  No matter what I do, LB doesn't seem to cooperate after a long flight.  Are there any tips or tricks from the pro's out there?

A lot of it is how you time your flight.  Arriving very early in the day seems to work for me - I have a nap after checkin, and then am good to go in the evening.

Arriving late afternoon, you don't want to sleep because you won't sleep at night, and you're too tired to punt.

If I'm forced into that, I just have a few drinks in the bar, crash early, and enjoy the punts the next day.

Thanks for the ideas...getting there a day earlier isn't an option  

Never tried the pharmacological route...Might be an option.  First class or at least business class if I get upgraded...Here's hoping for an upgrade.

Keep em coming!  Any foods to avoid or eat more of?  Power meals?  I already don't drink on the flights so that's not an issue.

My thoughts

After trying both, arriving early or late in the day, (after 24 hours of travel), here is what I do, remembering I am there for business also.
The best for me is to arrive in my final hotel about 9 to 10 pm and have a regular waiting.  Shower then have a slow easy time with the regular until 12 or 1am.  Try to get some sleep at that point (you will be tired!).  Start your next day at 9 am with breakfast and head out to business for the day.  If I finish business early enough, I head back to the hotel for an afternoon nap and then that night off to the KTV and whatever comes  UP.
I can seem to "work" with this schedule quite well and yes I do take the V to help out, but at my age, 73, it doesn't seem to do much.
If I arrive early in the day, it doesn't seem to work for me and I don't get any real work done for ma couple days at least.

Just a note:  This last trip, returned on the 27th, did the morning arrival.  I felt like I was not with it at all for three days, and ended up cutting down my normal diet of at least 1 girl per day to about 5 in 14 days.  Maybe I am getting "old"??  I'm not ready for that!!!  mrclen

You have several years on me and I feel much like you do from your last trip most of the time.  I wouldn't say you're getting old...1 per day over 14 days would (should) exhaust anyone!

Good suggestions here.  I agree you should take it slow on arrival -how about a regular massage without HE to relax you and start to build the temptation for day 2 instead?

Nutrition wise I'd say keep very well hydrated, I do this as standard practice anyway and whenever I'm dehydrated (judge by the colour of your piss) I always feel sluggish and somewhat unhealthy.

unless u are able to get uninterrupted sleep on the plan sitting up ...........
flying business or first class is what cured it for me
i got drinks in the lounge and also on the fligh
i ate my grub and drank enough liquor to put me to sleep
by the time i woke up, it was landing time and i was ready to rock

if u cant get an upgrade, try to get some sleep
that is the most important issue

I struggle to sleep on planes, business class or otherwise.

When i land after a long flight at a punting venue, I usually take some form of dick pill and get straight to it. Despite the tiredness, always find it hard to nap or sleep knowing that pussy is readily available!

Once your have your brains fucked out for a couple of ours, you will be out like a light until the next day

Avoid the food on the plane.
I think there is much glue in it.
After landing, you're feel fat eaten.
The whole blood is in your digestion and is not available for LB.

Only take drinks, after landing take a cold shower and down into the fray.

View from a frequent US East-Asia flyer...


Watch Wolf of Wall Street, that'll give you many ideas.

I fly trans-Atlantic and connect in EU on my way to Asia. The longer your flight and more connections you have, the more gradual your adjustment. Gradual is better. If you're flying nonstop New York - Hong Kong (or any US East to China East flight) then you'll get the worst jetlag ever since there is a 12 hour difference.

Start early. If you're flying US-EU-Asia, go to sleep earlier than usual. Sleep at 7pm starting 2-3 days before your flight. If you're flying US-Asia, sleep late. Go clubbing in NY and go to bed at 4 or 5am. Keep that up for 2-3 days.

If you are connecting in EU, make your connection(s) a long one and venture into the city. Tire yourself out so you can sleep well on the plane.

Don't stuff yourself during your flight. But don't skip the food altogether either. Eat lots of greens, proteins, go easy on carbs.

Some people say no booze at all, but what's the fun in flying first class if you don't drink? I say no red wine or beer. Have your beer if you aren't afraid of getting gaseous. Load up on Dom, Krug, and JW Blue. I don't care if you're afraid of jetlag, if something is $150USD+/bottle, you better drink at least one damn glass.

After landing, if you're feeling fine, great, don't rest. If you get in HK in the morning or afternoon, and go straight to relax somewhere, all your hard work is wasted. Go sightseeing, go walk around some park, go work out at your hotel gym. No naps. If you're not feeling so energized after you land, take some adderall. Unlike cocaine, adderall is okay according to customs and immigration. If you don't know where to get adderall, ask your teenager's friends. If you don't have kids, ask your college roommate who never graduated.


And other misc notes...

A quick face wash with cold water does wonders, short-time. Cold water showers will do the same, but makes you more uncomfortable.

Coffee usually doesn't work. It doesn't make you awake, it just makes you unable to fall asleep when you're tired.

Work out before you sleep (at night).  But in this case, sex does not count as work out.

Wake up on time. Doesn't matter if you only got 3 hours of sleep last night. You'll sleep better tonight if you're tired this morning.

If you have the option, fly on Boeing 787. If that's not an option, fly on Airbus A380. If that's not an option, fly on Boeing 777-300ER. These three planes have great humidity and pressure control on board. On these planes your nasal passages will not be so dried out. The difference between the 787/A380 versus the Boeing 747 is night and day.

JW Blue...Never liked the stuff.  Give me a good 18 or 20+ year Glenlivet or Lagavulin and I'm happy.  

I've tried the booze/non-booze thing and the draw of nice liquor/champagne just doesn't get me anymore.  

I guess what I might need to get over is the feeling that I'm wasting my $$ on a failed punt on the first day.  After all, what's better than having a beautiful naked woman trying her hardest to please me?

I love all the comments on this subject!  Jet lag is a bitch!  My normal day is out the door the first day at 9 am.  Finish with first appointment by 11 or 1 depending on lunch.  Back to hotel and second appointment at 2pm.  Try for a short power nap in the middle.  Back to hotel by 5pm.  Sometimes a business dinner and back to the hotel later.  Try for another short nap before party time.  Normally I am good to go the first two days after arriving, but then it catches up on the third day.  I leave the USA on Tuesday and arrive in my hotel about 10 pm on Wed.  Work Thur and Fri and ease up on Sat.  Sunday it really catches up and rest as much as possible--but Sunday night a bit of party.  Anyway that's my schedule. it may or may not work for you.   

I have been a 1K flyer on United for a few years and did manage to get some good upgrades, but those days are over with all the restrictions on earning miles they have now put in place.  I don't think I will ever be a 1K flyer again (I will have the miles, but not $$$ spent on their Credit Card) and will be lucky to get much of a status at all.
If anyone has a good mileage program and airline to recommend please post it.  The new UA qualifier for 1K status is:  100,000 miles + (and here is the kicker) $ 10,000.00 qualifying dollars spent on UA tickets.  And remember, only a percentage of the actual ticket price results in "qualifying dollars", so likely you will have to spend $15,000 + TO QUALIFY!  They have really put the screws to the frequent flyers and businessmen.

mrclen, like it or not, revenue-based programs are here to stay... Small airlines had revenue-based earning systems but no one cared (Southwest, Airtran, etc), but then Delta followed suit, then United. I wouldn't be surprised if American does the same after things with the US Airways merger finalizes. Granted that might take a while. Best bet is to convince your company that you're worth more and have them pay for business class tickets
