For google/Android users WARNING

Guys,

For those who are attached and use google and an android phone, be aware that google tracks your movements and creates a nice map of where you have been - go to www.google.com/settings/accounthistory and click on 'Places you have been'.....

Not sure if this has been highlighted before but I thought it worth sharing for those who have suspicious other halves

Thankfully, the PRC is blocking Google now, so this doesn't work on the mainland.

I actually keep mine enabled.  While a little creepy - I also think that it is really cool to be able to view old trips and see the places I went.  It also sometimes helps me when I am behind on tracking my billings/expenses or figuring out where a pic was taken from the timestamp.

All the more reason to have a screen-locked, standalone punting phone!  Worse case scenario [in best poker-face], "No, honey, I don't know who's phone that is.  Did I pick it up by accident?"

Have you heard of Tor?

Even the American National Security Agency has troubled trying to track users if they use Tor.

Or, that's exactly what the NSA wants you to think...

Tor would not help in this case - Google is using the GPS fix and cell registration to track your movements. Tor is only for internet use.

I read a story about a guy in New Zealand that had a tracking program on his phone that he installed and used on himself.  He was stopped by the police while driving and they suspected him in a driving hit and run accident.  The police evidence was rather flimsy but when the guy was able to show the police his exact location at the time of the crime and thus they removed him from the potential criminal list.

My point is that sometimes things like this can be used to your advantage.  Perhaps you are not a criminal but look like one.  Maybe the cops hassle you a lot, and suspect that you are a rapist or something, well this can be a good defense for you.

If you're not doing anything wrong then having urself tracked isnt that bad.  Ofc if u're mongering or anything shady and have a SO, it's probably best to turn it off.

Another vote for a separate punting phone. Friend of mine was having trouble with her husband. she told me about some "parental control" apps that are available. They are pretty scary. mspy and mobistealth...and a few others that i can't remember. Not only can they monitor your gps, they can see all sms, whatsapp, etc. as well as internet, facebook.....photos / videos on your phone. and monitor / record your calls too.
