Weekend gateaway

I will be travelling to China and Hong Kong in September and I will be able to take a long weekend while I am there. I was wondering if someone could recommend any interesting option. I would like to go to a seaside destination, not too far (let's say less than 3 hours flight), no visa required, with good punting. I will be able to spend 3/4 days there and would like to relax.
Thailand seemed a good option, but seen the current situation, any other good alternative would be good.

Phuket. Nice beaches, reasonable punting. And because of the current political issues, you should have the pick of the girls at reasonable rates. The unrest has really not changed phuket at all, but it has scared off a lot of tourists. My guess is you can score a great hotel dirt cheap right now.
