i receive a call from some company based in HK.

if possible, i would like to ask someone in hk to help me verify the identity of this company
they were saying somthing along the line where i have won a substantial amount of money
and is going to send it to my bank acc.
but due to the huge amount, under HK regulation, they need to take a certain amount of money for kinda like an insurance, incase the
money was not received fully by me.
and they want me to transfer through money order( yea rite... like i would)

if any of you are free, and would like to help.. or play a lil detective game.. pls do help
i spoke with a lady(told me she iis 24 y/o.. and apparently today is her bday)and comes from China her name was Luo Mei Zhu (mei as in pretty or beutiful, and zhu as in pearl)
she mention a few personal informations...which can be true or made up scenario...


according to the website, the office is spose to be at Shang Wan.. i presume it's Sheung Wan...

truthfully i've always been sceptical bout these things...., i reckon all of them are just scams....
but the lady seems to talk in a very casual manner, which i find a bit different..

The most recent scam I've been getting is from a supposed hit-man who's been hired to kill me. He wants me to
pay more than the person who's already hired him or he'll murder me.      He says he knows where I live
and everything about me. Funny thing though - he doesn't even know my name.   These guys must think
we're idiots.    

Now that's one I've never heard of! I'm jealous.

the thing is with this one.. i actually asked them.. if i were to go to hong kong would i be able to pick up the cheque my self... and she say yes...
and from the way she talk about her family and tru our conversation, i kinda felt she wouldn't be able to make up such
story ... unless it's been practised for 1000 times and she is a very very good actor.
one more point i forgot to mention is... during our conversations.. she would occasionally pick up phone when they rings..
at 1st i really thought...wow.. they must be trained well... can even fake a a phone conversation...
but she just kept doing it....
i'm really having doubts now...and somehow feel like going to hk at the end of this weekend for a few days just to comfirm it.
at the same time visiting my relative.

I don't get you.  You have already have two guys telling you it's a scam and you still have to verify it?  Dude.  It is a fucking scam, I just received like 6 emails from a Mr. MW Patrick Chan from HSBC hong kong doing the same crap.  They don't even know your fucking name.   Wake up already, you are not going to get rich overnight via 1 email and a few phone conversations.  Hong Kong has no regulations on money either, you think she would rather send it to a stranger than friends or family?  DUH?  Unless you think you are special, then I would advise you to send her your bank account number, make sure it is the one that has all your life savings in it, just in case.

There'll always be people who thinks they can beat the system ... its no different in this scam

well i'm not exactly the beleiving type too... i'm just saying the way they do it.. it's giving me doubt about the authentification of it. that's why i say that either they are well trained or, they must me a very good actor.

This scam has been around for ages (for fuck's sake, there's even a Wikipedia entry about it! - did you do the Goolge search on 'Nigerian scam'?) and the one element that never varies is that, for some plausible sounding reason or another, you must ALWAYS first send them some money to enable the transfer of funds into your account. That's a dead giveaway.

what does that girl's personal information/background have to do with anything?  That's just to throw you off.  dude, why is it that you think YOU won this money, when you didn't do shit.  Even lottery winners have to purchase a ticket.  Don't you already get tons of emails  on scams like this?

first of all.. i never once said that i beleived them.... i just say they way they do it... is very good.. had me thinking for a bit.. but i'm not a fool to bloody send a money order to them just because they ask me to.....promising a huge prize... the reason i want to verify it was out of curiosity, since i know some of u r in hk.. that's why i post it up here... but anyhow i already had it checked out, the company name exist in china.. just not in hk.most probably they just took the company name and make a fake website for it.
anyway... thanks alot for your advises...even tho it sounded more like insults to me.. but anyway.. it's all good..

I heard of a group that takes on these scamsters, and actually gets money out of them by playing exactly the same game ... sounding all eager at first, then they hit a "snag" ... like having to pay a withdrawal fee or something ... and it'll take just a few $$ to get around the problem so they can send the $$$ the scamsters want ... and the crazy thing is they actually fall for it!!! So caught up in their own game they don't see it coming ...

I used to get about 2 or 3 "Nigerian Scams " a week. So then I started replying and asking them to send me $1 million to show good faith before we went any further. I never heard from any of them again.
Total scam and they know there's a lot of gullible people around, otherwise it wouldn't be going on for so long.

zhouyun, ask yourself this one simple question.  Is this too good to be true?  If it is, then you are being scammed.   Variations of the Nigerian bank scam are running rife, preying on the unsuspecting.  Do yourself a favour, ignore it.  Or if you really believe it, please forward a money order or bank cheque to me and I will promise to send one back to you at double the amount!

Hey jake, just to let you know, that scam has been happening in Oz for about a year.  Some [scared / thick] people have fallen for it and coughed up big lumps of cash.  It must have worked becasue they weren't killed afterwards!  

the phrase "sucker born every minute" comes to mind. I have even asked for their information and they didn't give it to me. if they give you their passport and id information...then it's still a scam. people will do lots to get your money.

don't trust them.

For it to have worked those guys must have done something bad enough for them to think that somebody
really would want to kill them. But who'd want to kill good ol' Jake?
