Renting a car in China Shenzhen/DG area

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could refer me to any rental car companies in Shenzhen/DG area. I was wanting to rent a car to be able to get around to the places I need to get to.

Any good recommendations? and good pricing?

I had called a few places before and they wanted to have a mainland china credit card to hold deposit, or else they want 6,000 RMB wired as deposit. I found that a bit strange. Anyone know of any loophole to using out of country credit cards as deposits?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know about renting cars there but have heard of scams where you do rent the car and when you bring it back they will tell you parts of the engine /body was missing or have been changed etc etc ... then you end up with a list of charges on your hands ... so be warned ! and be careful (if you can)

Do you have experience driving in China?  Otherwise I very strongly reccomend against it.  You might be better off hiring a car and driver.  Asside from just the crazy driving, if you get in an accident, as a foreigner, you could get in a lot of trouble even if it is not your fault.  Not everyone is exactly... honest.  If you have a driver then it is his responsability.

I didn't think you could rent/ drive a car in China without a China driving driving license anyways. ( At least not legally) They don't except HK or International driving licenses on that side of the border.

Side note I think people exagerate how bad China driving is. I dorve across three Provinces once and only saw two highly ridiculous driving stunts.

The Mainland Chinese CC deposit or cash is fairly standard, and I have rented from various big companies across China, although never in Shenzhen itself.  Hertz and Avis are all very good, with Avis in particular tending to have good deals and new cars.  (I use Avis in Guangzhou.)  Cheap cars can be found through zuche.com, but they are often dirty and not great quality.  Zuche.com does have more locations than Avis and Hertz, however you will need to send a scan of your license and passport to them in advance.  Plus, if your visa has less than 30 days on it, they won't rent to you.  Good luck!

My friend recently rent a Citreon in Foshan, monthly rental 3K ++.
Seems alright, stable and ok on oil, according to him

Peugeot is frenchy car, go for this if cost is lower than Citreon.

Well, u drive for few days, if you dont like, make sure they let u return and change another car.

Warning, dont rent a Volkswagen and Skoda.
In China, they used faulty DSG gearbox.

Well Hunter,

So far the rental is about 114 RMB per day plus 40 rmb insurance is 154 RMB a day. for three car:

1. chevy,
2. Peugeot
3. Citreon

So i'm thinking perhaps 2. would be a good choice. I'm wondering if I'm overpaying when your friend only pays 3K for the whole entire month.

hum....I will stay away from Volks and Skoda. There's so many brands of cars in China, more than anywhere else i know.

How about GPS? what GPS do you guys use? I think i will totally be lost in China without a GPS. Does garmin have China maps or something? or iphone 5 have china maps on their GPS?

Checked  with my friend, he rented the car for long term, hence better rate.

Check website for this rental company 神州租车.
He rent it online from this company.

Not sure bout GPS from iphone apps (slow)  but you need one to drive in Guangdong.
