Prepaind SIM help needed

I need a new prepaid sim that has both china and HK numbers.  i hate the crazy roaming charges of $6-8hkd/min when i'm in china  when i had a HK phone number.

I looked around and am planning on getting this 2in1 from hk's China mobile.  http://www.hk.chinamobile.com/p_prepaid_1c2n_charge_en.jsp

i basically spend most of my time split between HK and Guangdong, China...i only use it for a week or two at a time...2-3 times a year.  other suggestions from other carriers would be appreciated.

Hello!  This info may be outdated but you can go and purchase a dual SIM card mobile phone.
Place a HK as well as a Chinese SIM card and it should seamlessly switch from one system to the other.
This should help you avoid any of those crazy roaming charges.
LMK if this works.

yes. you can get those dual SIM card mobile phone in any mobile shop in HK. i think nokia has a model for this kind of phone. I forgot the exact price but it should be around HK$300-500 only. than you can just buy sim card in HK's 7-11 and than buy another one in china.

Just FYI... China Mobile is the slower of the two services in China.  China Unicom has 3G speeds.  Eventually, China Mobile is supposed to get 4G in some areas if you have a phone that can use that network.  But I'm not sure when that is supposed to happen.

If you intend to use just the phonr roming in HK and China I strongly suggest you buy the duel number prepaid sim card from China Mobile like you said, BUT THE SIM CARD IS THE REGULAR SIZE ONLY - NOT THE MICRO SIZE FOR IPHONES OR OTHER NEWER PHONES !
the cost for their use is HK$0.6 per minute for both inland and calls to and from China / HK, I think the cost of the card is
HK$120 which includes 60 minutes or something like that...
The card also can data rome but the cost is high

kaleu - I was just in China using China Mobile data roming and the speed even at their 2G was fine - in the open I couldnt tell much difference between that and HK's 3G, but if inside buildings the speed drops.
But the best thing about a being on a subscription plan with CM is you can use data roming in China FOC !

China Mobile is also cheaper.  In my area I do notice a speed difference.

They can't cut a dual number SIM card down to size like a regular SIM card?

Hey guys,

thanks for all the input....I am just going to go with the China Mobile prepaid 2 in 1.  I don't have that much data use in China as i will be in an office with wifi or hotel room so it's mainly for phone calls.

i figure $6 HKD a month admin fee is only 72hkd a year...my only issue is remembering to recharge every 6 months to extend the validity period....my old card used to continuously add to the validity period.  this card is only valid 6 months after last recharge.

Perhaps I stand corrected about China Mobile not having 3G.  Or perhaps it's false advertizing...

I saw this yesterday.

As far as I know, CM does not have a 3G platform in china, they only have 2G Ana willupgrade straight to 4G in another 2 years when they get their license

In HK they have 2G, 3G & 4G but their 3 & 4 G are not compactable so if there is no signal at 4G it drops down to 2G
