this could have gone under "Bang for the Buck," but bros sometimes PM me for Thailand advice, and this is some of the best i've ever read.

a lot of us travel to Thailand for fun--as many of u know, i used to live there and have definite opinions on behavior/dress/manners which i believe are worth hearing before any monger-trip to the Kingdom.

and i've also mentioned Stickman's column--it has plenty of useful tidbits and often the collected wisdom of an interviewee. his column last Sunday had the words of a longtime Pattaya resident, an outspoken character. this is a guy who LIVES there, has a lot of experience, and who firmly states things i concur with. again, i've lived there, i speak the language passably, have had a lot of experience with Thai WGs and while i think the whole interview is worth reading (the link is below), i've excerpted some outstanding quotes and reproduce them below.

if the idea of a sex-holiday in Thailand interests you, whether you've been or not, please read his words. very few people will tell you these things so directly. IN Thailand, u should never be direct--deflect, joke, dress well.

The more money you pay, the more the girl hates you...  If you are going to pay 5,000 baht to short time a girl she despises you.  I got girls that I get on well with and I take them for 300 baht.  These are my 300 baht girls.  We are more like mates now.  Cool chicks and we have a great time.  I have a better experience with a 300 baht girl than I would with a 5,000 baht girl.

No girl is worth 5,000 baht. That's just insane.  Damn!  I never pay more than 1,000 baht.  Never ever!  That includes barfine.  I'll pay 300 baht barfine and 700 baht short time.  If that's not acceptable I walk away.  There are plenty more.

I have worked, holidayed & travelled around China for 7 years now. I have went with family as well as friends...

If I had the cash I would retire their tomorrow. Although I would probably be dead in 2 years   

I have a friend that is semi-retired there and he always say 2 of the above which I do think are perfect for punters there:

1) Catch and release.  Catch and release.  You've gotta release.

Not just girls however, but also other punters will begin to hate you. I always have a friend who overpays everytime we go we have an argument about it!

Pretty drastic. Once I was in Pattaya, walking along Beach road on my way to meet some fellow punters for dinner. A FL
approached me and I liked what I saw. Since I was tied up at that time, I gladly took her phone number, then called her later for some fun.

This is again pretty drastic. I always take gals for short time. But every once in a while, I like the girl and I don't want her to
leave. Not only have they spent the night in my room, but in some cases, I kept them for a couple of days.

I tend to agree on this, except that once in a blue moon, you may meet a girl that you "just got to have". It has not
happened to me yet, so I am saving my 5K baht for that special occasion, if it ever comes.

note that i don't agree 100% with this guy, but i DO think his views need to be heard. agree or disagree, give it a think.

i lived in Bangkok, not Pattaya, and i collected plenty of phone numbers and certain ladies (the Red Ant in particular) were invited for sleepovers. and pillowfights.

but i also say learn the local language and culture as much as you can. most of the WGs in Thailand come from poor areas: 5K baht feeds their family or their village for a month. they can't understand why some guy would pay that for a simple sex act, just pulling the cash out of their pocket as if buying a bag of sliced pineapple, and expect them to be impressed. they really DON'T like that, it won't impress them, quite the reverse. maybe i should have just put that one quote in.

if you pay reasonable amounts, demonstrate that while your funds may be limited, the amount of FUN you create is not, you WILL have a great time. i also kept my fridge stocked with snacks, this is important (the Shark says he keeps his stocked with whisky and beer, well, that's his party).

i wanted to spark discussion, but for me the main point is: respect the local culture, which means speaking Thai as much as possible, not overpaying, treating the girls well, providing a fun atmosphere with snacks/drinks/movies as appropriate and not putting up with any BS, but doing it with a smile. if you can manage that you can have an AMAZING time in Thailand.

Some points may sound drastic, but then again, it's one man's point of view and rules he lives by.

Some of us may beg to differ as we may have our own rules that we live by and is able to maintain control over the situation. IMHO, it will depend on individuals but I find the points made are pretty clear and to the matter of fact.

I got burnt once for keeping and not releasing. But that was in China, not Thailand...my point is, the rules above could probably apply anywhere in the punting world.

We can bend it somewhat, but I think it's a good guide to begin with.

All we are looking for is fun, respecting local culture will definitely improve our mileage. Everyone appreciates someone who knows and respect local cultures and I suppose this applies anywhere in the world as well. I mean who wouldn't be impress when we could utter just a few smattering words of local lingo? That means we made effort, that means respect is given, that means we some what care...and I think any ladies will be impressed and moved...

Just my humble opinion which may not even worth 2 cents...

that's really what it's all about. respecting and understanding the culture you're in is always appreciated. it takes effort on your part, but it pays off.

A friend of mine who I went to Pattaya a few times with was with the same girl every time he visited (4/5 times a year) for maybe 4 years...

He said after the first year she even stopped asking for money. She was earning enough working when he was not their. So when he was visiting she would take time off, even pay her own bar fine for the night so she could be with him. He obviously insisted on at least paying her bar fines. . .

Then one day she called him up & said sorry. Her family was angry at the money she was losing out on & some Irish guy offered her a monthly salary to live with him & her family insisted she take it. My friend wished her all the best and they stay in touch.

I respect their culture and sometimes I even envy how much they believe in their religion (if that makes sense without me sounding to crass..) Having a girl be adamant they must visit a temple to pray. I even went once with a girl & found it a true experience.
