141 Website blocked

So in Hong Kong when using my old Dell laptop after about 20 minutes or so on 141 I all of of sudden find myself blocked from the site. This happens most of the the time but not all of the time and it is quite annoying. I usually have to switch on the VPM to continue my post or whatever. Like many of you, I'm on PCCW internet and have neve experienced anything like this before.

More interestingly is when I use my big Apple Mac Pro desktop I never have this problem. This leads me to believe I have some sort of trojan/virus/worm kind of thing on my Dell. I use Avast virus protection have scanned the computer with Avast and it has found nothing.

See pic below foe a screen shot of what appears when I am blocked.

Any Ideas?

If this is the case, could it be that his SO would be able to track what site he tries to visit even though it ends up being blocked?

My SO does not know my passwords to either computer (Mac and PC) I use and I regulate any parental controls of which there are none set. My provider is PCCW and is the same provider as maybe 90%(?) of HK. This is blocking weird to me and only started happening about a month ago.

Hello Dooper,

Judging by the favicon(the orange O) on the browser tab.  It looks like it's related to OpenDNS, http://www.opendns.com/

1.  Could be parental settings via your ISP(PCCW) as pointed out by twiceAweek

2.  Check your browser to see if you've configured it to use OpenDNS servers.  If it is or used to be a work computer, it could be something your employer configured on your laptop.

3.  Review your web/content filtering on your browser, anti-virus/internet security software.  Change it if necessary.   Flushing your browser cache and local DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns) is recommended after you change any setting.

I use a variety of different DNS servers, you can try Google's for free.  See link below.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

In 2010, PCCW DNS servers went dead in the middle of the day.  I had to 'alert' them of this problem.  That's what prompted me to explore other DNS options.

Good luck,
Ty

Thanks Ty. Your info is very helpful.

I am inclined to rule out my ISP(PCCW) since this has never happened to me on my Macintosh computers (Mac Pro, Macbook Air, both 10.6) on the same ISP account and sharing a local router.

The Dell laptop I have problems with runs XP Pro and worked fine on 141 until a month or two ago.

I'll try your suggestions and see what happens.

It is a virus. Clues? Well, google would not stick up a page from blocked-website.com, with adverts, telling you thatt you are not allowed to access a page. They would stick up the google one, or if it a government diverter you would have a government page up.

That website is owned by DIRECTI INTERNET SOLUTIONS PVT. LTD, a company in India. \

This will lead you onto this blog about scams;l

http://suckerswanted.blogspot.co ... e-software-ltd.html

So they have been around a while and are finding ways to sit on their arses and make money from people they do not know.

I would suggest you have this spyware in there somewhere and they are making money by people clicking the ads on the popup.

You can find fixes on line for it, usually tweaking a registry line whilst disconnected from the internet. Or, you can give the little pricks a call on one of the following numbers;

http://www.ratite.com/whois/whoi ... RNET+SOLUTIONS+PVT.

(Macs are pretty immune to spyware by the way hence not having a problem on there).

^^I agree with the above. looks like a potential mess.  I had something like that happen to me before.  You may need to reformat or do a system restore.  I was out of commission for a day

It will be a small line (or handful of) in the registry. It seems to be a new launch page for a Savearmor virus

http://www.google.co.th/search?r ... F-8&q=SaveArmor

there are lots of pages on this removal; open a few up and if they all say the  same method, do that one. These things only take a few minutes (print the instructions out first though).

It's just a shame there is not a ethical group of hackers out there in the world that would set about an attack on these bastards; strike their server so hard it burns their buildings down.
