Over the past couple of months we've been inundated with dash cam videos from Eastern Europe. While we expect folks in the former Soviet Union would have a need to protect themselves against fraud, we would like to think that we have nothing to worry about here in Canada. Sadly, as this video shows, that is not the case.
Our hero was traveling on Ontario's busy Highway 401, in stop and go traffic, when the Acura in front of him began to roll backwards into him. In the ensuing conversation, the Acura driver asked for $500 cash to repair the damage to his bumper. We'll let the original poster tell his tale:
What happened at the end? Well, he called the cops because he thought that installing dash camera is illegal and told me I'm not allowed to do so. Obviously it's LEGAL! He also warned me not to hide the cam until the OPP arrives
SURE y not! The OPP arrived and copied down all of our info but I told him I have footage that can prove everything. He refused to look at it because this is a minor accident. I showed the RAW footage to my insurance company and I'm 0% at fault.
As it was a minor incident, the Ontario Provincial Police had no interest in investigating the video further. The moral here is that motorists had best protect themselves, because our town may not be called "Toronto the good" for too much longer!
