The story is I'm a young, European guy who does not speak a word of Cantonese. Will I have troubles finding a nice girl in an inviting environment, for a reasonable price? Reading ads and reports, I'm thinking 500-600 should cover it? Or will there be many hidden costs? I would like to bring only the money required for the service, plus a little tipping money, and I don't want to end up in trouble because she suddenly claims I owe her 1200 or something.

if you are going to shop around, you better bring a little more so you have some options open. Especially  because it says like you dont do this often, loosen up the wallet a little.

there is no need to really verbally let her know. you can take the lead and guide her to what you want to do and usually it is one price all inclusive anyways besides massages and special services like greek.

What's a good type of establishment to start at? Under what category are places listed that you can just "drop in" at, and don't have to call in advance?

Pretty much all the HGs needed to be appointed with PPS. For those 141 walk-up, many of them you can just drop in. In the case that the girl is not the type you like, you may just shake your head and say thanks then go away. Just be gentile, you will be fine.

I'd agree with erafal, that a 141 walkup is the best, as that's what I did my first time. It gives you time to prepare yourself, and you don't lock yourself into one girl. You also get to shop around, and make sure you get to go with a girl you like the look of, and who's got the right attitude. There's nothing to turn you off more than having a dud on your first go to discourage you on future goes.

#6 Correct, 141 are listed under a building and ads always come with a google map that you can find the place easily.

Also, for 141 walkups, I think standard time is 30 minutes, although many regulars I've been with encourage me to stay for a smoke and chat for much longer.
Hotel walk-in (HG), standard time is 45 minutes.
