Police have broken up a prostitution syndicate that brought sex workers from Thailand and the mainland to Hong Kong to ply their trade in four-star hotels.
A flat in Tsing Yi was used to match up clients and prostitutes and make payments.
"It's just like the headquarters of a logistics centre," said Chief Inspector Andy Chan Tin-chu, of New Territories South regional crime unit.
"All the bookings were stored in computers, as were the details of prostitutes and their business records."
Police seized HK$300,000 in cash and dozens of computers, mobile phones and SIM cards in yesterday's raid. Three Hong Kong men believed to be the syndicate's core figures were arrested.
Twelve suspected prostitutes - three from Thailand and nine from the mainland - were rounded up in four hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui and Tsuen Wan. The women, aged from 19 to 25, arrived with passports or two-way permits and were allowed to stay in the city for up to 30 days.
Police believe the syndicate had been operating for three months.
Clients were told the women's room numbers and were charged HK$800 to HK$900. "All calls were transferred to the command centre where operators asked callers to go to a hotel room for sex," Chan said.
A police investigator said: "The syndicate's core figures visited the prostitutes and collected money from them each day."
The suspects were being questioned last night.
