The girls over there are fake!  I always thought coming from the state that Taishan people are honest hard working people.  Boy was I wrong.  The impression what I got was lazy and sneaky.  When I got there they were all gambling and sitting around doing shit.  The girls told me that if you don't have a house in taicheng (capital) they won't consider to marry you.  I'm sorry to say, but I was a bit disgusted.  

Also, what you guys say is so true.  Your family there want to set you up with a girl.  However, with my luck I ended with a girl that was butt ugly.  What upsets me the most is when you invite someone for dinner and they invite their whole village over.  Is a bit annoying, I understand they don't have much but have some common courtesy.

I don't think there any action in taishan, but if anyone know which hotel got girls knocking at night.  Feel free to let me know.  

In terms of traveling, I will be getting to taishan by taking a bus from Hong Kong.  The bad part is that sometime you have to wait couple of hours before there is a bus .  

All in all, Taishan is a great place to see how your parent grew up etc and see the culture and heritage.  In terms of trusting or opening up to anyone.  I wouldn't do it.  I hope nobody is offended by this but this is how I feel.

Crazy you asked. I went there last year, lots of historical places to see. We drove there and it took about 2 hours, maybe a little less? This was from Guangzhou to Taishan. They're pretty famous for seafood I heard? So definitely give that a try.

The food, is a hit and a miss. We went with two hotel owners, so every place we ate at, they had people bring in live seafood that was caught earlier in the day. That was good shit but the dim sum place we went to was pretty bad, although it was heavily packed... I stayed there for 2days, hotels are pretty clean unlike some hotels you find in China

May I recommend not going on the white-water rafting there, it's horrid.

Visited a KTV inside a hotel, that was pretty good, beer was cheap. Didn't see any BBS though..

You will get the impression most of your relatives think you are stupid because you don't speak very good Chinese. You will have to pay for everything. They will think you are RICH because you are from overseas. If you give anything less than normal, people will think you are a cheapskate. I have heard a few stories of girls using guys to come over and getting divorced.

After getting married, expect having to pay for :

1. An introduction fee to the person or persons who got you together. That is, IF someone introduced you to each other ( 200 to 300 USD )
2.  You have to get a ring, depending on you it could be even more ( 2000 to 5000++ USD )
3.  Large Chinese banquet in both China and USA. ( 2000 to 3000 USD in China, 3000 to 8,000 USD in USA )
4. Gold and jewelry to wear. That is if you don't have any for her ( 3000 to 7,000 USD )
4.  Money to the parents. I think it's call "Lie Gum" in a big, big, red envelopes. You are buying someone to cook, clean & have your kids. ( 10,000 rmb to 20,000 rmb )
5. Red envelopes to people not married yet.  ( $200 to 500 USD )
6. Getting a visa for immigration, and lawyer fee for the process ( 1200+ USD for visa; 2500+ USD for lawyer: optional )
7. One way plane ticket 600 to 900 USD
8. She will want to send money back home each month. ( 100 to 200 USD )
9. Weekly phone calls that once was very expensive ( 10-15 USD a month )
9. After five years and getting her green card, she will want to bring her parents over. ( $1200 to 1400 for visa; 2500+ for lawyer : optional ).
10. Guess where both parents are going to stay ? You are going to support them and they are going to live will you.

11. After 6 to 7 years, that's when you know you were CONNED.
