#1 Post at 27-8-2011 07:23  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Uneven application of great firewall Something strange.  When on the Mainland I find that 141 is blocked as we all know.  However there is at least one other very similar site that is not blocked.  I won't name it here to avoid highlighting it.  But it really is almost exactly the same although I guess run by another group of people. So does anyone know why the other site does not invoke the wrath of the Chinese censors but 141 does?  It all seems like funny business to me.

#4 Post at 28-8-2011 18:15  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L firewall blocking is spotty at times.  The Gals DB is blocked 100% of the time, but 50% of the time, I was able to get directly to this forum.  Never could get through to facebook or youtube except through a proxy, and even with a proxy could never get to facebook.  blogger.com and blogspot.com was blocked most of the time, but sometimes it would go through.  Gmail was accessible about 75% of the time.  No problems with any other site.  This didn't matter whether I was using a hotel ISP, my home China Telecom high speed internet line, my 3G China Unicom prepaid data SIM, or my HK cell phone.  Didn't want to enable the major roaming costs using my US cell phone.

Depends on internet provider and offer, and also can depend on if you apply to internet directely to the provider or to your building management office. #9 Post at 7-9-2011 11:19  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Apologies, if as the above poster says, this topic has been discussed a lot.  But, I don't mean I'm randomly getting through or not depending on city or hotel.  I have never been able access 141 (although I'll try the trick with the English forums and grant some karma to kaka if it works and if I figure out karma).  I can always access a competing site with an almost identical name, it has never been blocked anywhere I've been.  I havent ever bothered with a VPN. Note I tried using that other site and wow is the photoshop ever amazing.  I had to walk out of the building when the girl opened the door.  Started using this site when I discovered English forums and heard they have video chat to help you judge for yourself. Still haven't used 141 very much and not able to get to HK for a little while.  Been using 37D in HK, but that's another post
