Jake, you say that I'm continually misinterpreting your words. You advise that I take everything you say at face value. So that's what I did. You read CPs comment as literally meaning that he thinks ANY action, no matter how extreme, ruthless, or inhumane is justified if motivated by the desire to extract oneself from poverty. If you say that is how you understood him, then I have no doubt that you firmly believe CP is advocating all sorts of horrible things here.

Of course, when I first read CP's comment, I just assumed he meant anything within reason - but then I realized that would be interpreting his words from context - and interpretation leads to all sorts of distortion, as you like to point out. So I decided to understand CPs words just as he wrote them and you say you understood them.

(And since you prefer to take people's words at face value, please treat mine the same way. Go back and reread my post - I'm just agreeing with you bro.)

My mention of USA intervention was just recalling my memory, I was not trying to make a point out of that. That said, you must feel pretty powerless as a *country* when you do everything in your power to get a democratic government caring for the people and trying to put the country back on the map, and then some asshole up north just fuck everything just because he can. As a recent example (yet another), we just got the news of some canadian humanitarian helpers who went to Haitia to take care of orphan children. Guess what they did? They forced young boys to have sex with them ... How depraved......

You *never* know what is acceptable to you when your life is in danger bro, until you actually reach that fateful moment ... Some people shit in their pants, others fight tooth and nails. You have your own moral principles, coming from education/experience and I believe some religious endoctrinement, but my own experience tells me that unless you are confortable dealing with your inner self as it is for real and not how you would like it to be, then moral principles disappear real quick when they become an obstacle to your survival.

Poverty in the end is all about that, fighting for survival and hopefully getting out of it. It's day to day decisions. If you allow yourself to think of the future, taking the gun to your head will not seem such a bad option.

I was under the impression that WG returned to their home after they got the money they wanted... By the way, what you say is also true of maids who leave their country for 10 years (usually). WG will do so for 2-5 years. That is a choice to make ... And honestly, many maids will end up in the bed of their employer anyway ....

It really surprises me how much you are unforgiving to these people who made a conscious choice about how to get a better life. You do realize that sometimes they take that decision even against their own principles?

How do you judge *yourself* ? What does it tell us about your character that you are willing to support immorality because in that particular case, it is beneficial to you?

I recall watching one of those ghost stories movie series.  I think it was like Ghost stories 67 or something, the ones that keep coming out nonstop.  There was one episode where this waiter was married to a cripple but she was actually a ghost that did not know she was dead.  She would go on 141 to look for WGs for her husband since she could not take care of him sexually (assuming because she is crippled or something) and she would say to him before he went:

In my younger days, when I am drunk (which is very often), I would not drive home but drive to the nearest petrol station or bank (where it is not dimmed) and spent the night sleeping in the car;  Waking up at about 6 am, I would then drive home, take a bath and change to a new set of clothes and go to work.  Lady of the house ask no questions

I am not talking about morals, but principles; My belief is that I shouldn't monger when I am attached unless married (Go figure)
