It has been a boom for Australia, not just in money or more selfishly WG.
Australia finally has polite staff in the service  and retail industries. "Yeah what" has been replaced by a sweet "Hellro Sir" with a PAN east asian accent, in most Cafes restaurants and Shopping centers within 10km of a University or college.

A Student Visa comes with a 2 day a week work permit. Many WG's enroll in course and then work 7 days but never more than 2  days in the some place each week.
