NHL Winter Classics 2011

The NHL Winter Classics 2011 is coming up on Jan 1st.
Big Hockey - Big Stadium! They turn "Heinz Field" the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers into a Hockey Arena
Penguins vs Capitals or Sidney Crosby vs Alex Ovechkin

My money is on the Pens - who would you go for?

Given how the two teams have played recently, you'd have to go with the Pens on this one.

BTW, have you been watching the HBO mini-series run up to the Winter Classic? Some great behind the scenes work at what goes on. Fascinating stuff!

It's suppose to rain on Saturday for the game. I heard the game might be played on Sunday if the weather is bad on Saturday.

That would be a shame if it rained on that day or if they had to postpone. They've been fortunate so far in the past Winter Classics as the weather has been nearly ideal.

As much as I'd like to see Crosby continue his scoring streak, a small part of me wants him to go pointless in a game just so he'd shave that dirt on his upper lip that goes for a mustache   Some people just weren't meant to have facial hair

Oops. I guess you need to be careful what you wish for

I actually like Crosby and think he's truly a phenomenal player. I just didn't want to see the dirt above his lip anymore.

Looks like he got stopped in the SO as well. Who would have imagined of all the teams they played, it would be the Islanders and Dipietro who eventually stop him cold!

Have finished watching episodes 2 and 3. What a blessing to have had HBO take the time and effort to put this documentary together. A brilliant recording of two of the top teams in the league with arguably the two best players in the league barreling towards a classic showdown. I'm a big hockey fan and to see what goes on behind closed doors in the locker room, in between periods and in the downtime between games was a real eye opener. Not particularly family friendly the documentary though with F-bombs dropped left, right and centre like it's going out of style!

I'm a fan of the Pens so was sad to see the result of this, but a great game still...

noticing this topic here I wanted to ask,  how easy is it to see NHL matches in Hong Kong? In bars or tv in hotel rooms etc... Im guessing not so easy due to the time difference and lack of popularity.   Im going to HK for the first time this spring, but its before the playoffs begin so it doesnt matter so much.

I was just in HK last week and I found that NOW TV played a few hockey games and they even had the two NFL playoff games on TV.  I think they would be showing a bit more hockey if you are heading there in the spring because there isn't a whole lot of american sports going on at thetime.  Just NBA.  As for bars, I have yet to find one that shows very much american sports and even if they do, it is generally NBA.  Never hockey.  Maybe there is a place but I have yet to find it.
