Need a love hotel? There’s an app for that
For decades now, Hong Kong’s love hotels – guest houses that rent their rooms out by the hour – have provided carnal safe-haven for everyone from cheating spouses to oversexed teens. But with limited-advertising and discreet-locations at play, tracking down these dens of debauchery can prove challenging at best.
Thankfully however, local software developer Muecs has created a handy iPhone application to address the issue (pun intended).
The Muecs platform – known only by its Chinese name, 香港時鐘酒店 Guide, not only provides a detailed catalogue of love hotels by district, but also boasts a Google map plug-in, capable of visually pinpointing your destination quicker than you can say “blood-sucking bed bugs.”
As per a recent blog entry by Muecs director Benjamin Law, the idea for the app stemmed from a growing need among night dwellers to find and reserve their coitus quarters in advance. According to Law, many are often turned away on arrival due to high occupancy rates, leaving them angry and frustrated (we’re talking serious blue-balls here).
While there’s still no word about an English version, Muecs are rumored to be adding a new coupons-function to the platform, allowing users to redeem discounts and special offers – because checking-in to a sleazy love hotel at standard rates isn’t humiliating enough already.
The program is currently ranked seventh among lifestyle applications on iTunes, and is even said to have hit the number two spot in recent weeks, trumped only by the OpenRice app.
