And the winner is, Australia!

Australians have come out on top as the world's most envious people in a tally of the seven deadly sins.

BBC magazine Focus found Australians also scored highly for the other six sins, making Australia the 'most sinful' country on Earth.

"Sin-prone" Australia was followed by the US, Canada, Finland and Spain.

Researchers used a points system to determine which countries committed the seven deadly sins (lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride), the most.

The tally compared national statistics for plastic surgery (pride), theft (envy), violent crime (wrath), number of annual holidays (sloth), annual salary (greed), money spent on fast food (gluttony) and porn (lust).

Australians ranked first for envy and third for lust and gluttony.

Despite a fondness for the occasional sickie, sloth was was identified as the sin Australians were least likely to commit, with eight other countries considered lazier.

Six nationalities were considered more wrathful and three more greedy or proud.

Highest in each of the sin categories were the US (gluttony), Mexico (greed), South Korea (lust), Iceland (sloth and pride), Australia (envy) and South Africa (wrath).

So America spends the most on fast food - no complaints there. Mexico has the highest annual salary? And Oz has the highest rate of theft?? As always, I don't think you can read anything into these sorts of studies unless you know exactly how they were carried out.

Interesting thought, though - I would have to say the most sinful country would have to be somewhere like Thailand, but then I guess that just covers lust!

I thought Australia would top the greed stats. Well our government is greedy and to top it of, our councils have a set of different rules too

As they say, Australia is a 'fine' country

We are descendants of convicts, we're bound to be a bit light fingered. It's preferable to being descendants of religious extremists, or pilgrims as the Americans call them.

I don't think this research is very accurate at all.

South korea scored highest for lust (porn), which I thought should have been won by Japan considering the staggering number of AVs they produce.

How can Iceland top the pride (plastic surgery) category, when just about every woman (including a lot of their miss universe contestants) in Venezuela apparently has had plastic surgery!

This research may turn out to be a joke in a few days' time!

South Korea winning the lust stakes does not surprise me, they are horny little fuckers. I've heard many stories about their exploits from friends who worked there and would go out with local colleagues.

Same, i am surprised at S Korea too but it really depends how they measure lust.

With just owning/watching porn, you could've quite easily did a survey on how many times people do it
for a different way to measure and then get maybe totally different results.

haha I can't believe how technical we are getting with the research released, they should just release the measures they used to attempt determining the lust factors haha.

lust factors can be defined by some as just wanting, doesn't merely mean actually having sex from my interpretation
