'Sex slave' escaped year of Taser torment: court
A MAN allegedly imprisoned a woman for more than a year in a Sydney unit and forced her to work for him as a prostitute, controlling her by using a Taser stun gun.
Haytham Abuquta, 25, faced Parramatta Bail Court yesterday charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman in Auburn.
In documents tendered to court, police allege the woman was working in a Guildford brothel when she met Mr Abuquta.
The woman told police they became friends and he ''convinced'' her to move in with him. Shortly after, Mr Abuquta allegedly took her mobile phone and passport.
The woman said he then forced her to work as a prostitute at various brothels, for 12 to 18 hours a day, court documents state. She said Mr Abuquta told her she owed him $20,000, and the money she earned was kept by him. It is also alleged that he forced her to have sex with him.
Court documents state that on June 10, the woman was using a laptop when Mr Abuquta grabbed it to see if she was sending emails.
Police allege he punched her when he found no emails, called her a liar, then Tasered and raped her.
The woman escaped that day, when he allegedly took her to see his solicitor over an unrelated matter.
She ran away and called police, and was admitted to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she was found to have several Taser injuries on her body.
When interviewed by police, Mr Abuquta allegedly said the woman was his girlfriend and she was ''a prolific user'' of the drug ice.
In a search of their Auburn unit, police found drug paraphernalia.
Magistrate James Garbett refused bail. Mr Abuquta will appear at Burwood Local Court on June 16.
