#1 Post at 21-5-2010 21:16  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Taking pics and tipping in Macau Saunas Just curious how one goes about taking pictures and giving tips at the Macau saunas when you strip and leave everything in the locker as you first come in? Is it ok to take your phone in with you? No need for a wallet since they charge everything to your bracelet number, right? I felt bad that I couldn't tip all the shower & lounge attendants and massage girls. I just left a tip when I paid at the end but not sure it gets back to all those who deserve it. You can hide your cash in your phone or cigarette box. Alternatively, as the attendants in the changing room area for a zip bag to store your stuff which can be put in the mini locker during your shower time. Note: you can always go back to your locker to get your stuff if you have forgotten something. You don't have to tip the lounge attendants or massage people as they earn their money if you ask them to massage you. Taking pics? Just ask the girl if she is willing to allow you. Some might say yes, some might say no. Just don't be pushy about it. Also some establishments have strict rules on pic taking and may fine their girls if found on forums. So please be nice. Since I don't speak Chinese, they were the ones who helped me the most and explained how things worked at each place more so than the main mamas/papas. I think most of them were Filipino which is probably why they could speak more English. Also, since I'm sure no one really goes to the saunas for the massages (the legit ones, i mean), the massage staff probably doesn't get paid much (i'm guessing much less than the girls). That's probably why they're so aggressive in hawking their service in the lounges. Most of their services only cost about  HK$200-400 = US$25-50. [ Last edited by  killaht at 22-5-2010 09:24 ]

Yes in general most of them are more friendly than managers at some establishments. The lounge attendants all get a standard monthly salary that may not seems much to foreigners but it is a lot more than what they can do in their native countries. I don't feel bad for not tipping them but I do try to treat them nice and thank them when they bring me stuff. On the other hand the lounge massage people only get paid if someone order their service. That is why they have to hustle. They can potentially go home with an empty pocket if they don't get any orders. They also have to pay the establishment for the food, really bad food I was told, they consume there. Sometime I would order food and discreetly give it to them to show my appreciation....just don't get caught....big fine for them if they get caught.
