Because prostitutiom is illegal in the US and some of the providers just want to rob you with their associates, I have a habit NOT to call the girl/management in the immediate vicinity where they are staying/staging. Especially when they ask detail on what kind of car I am driving, that's automatically raises a red flag. There is no reason for them to know.
Back to the original post, if you don't care about being identified, you can call in the lobby or so on. If you do worry, call maybe 1-2 minutes away from the hotel. That should give you a blanket of anonymity.
