Interesting article on recent research linking HPV (the virus that causes cervical cancer) to head and neck cancers.

For a long time docs thought that HPV was NOT transmitted orally, mostly because the HPV that causes warts never showed up on anyone's lips. However they subsequently found that the other versions of HPV, particularly the 5 or 6 implicated in cervical cancer, could be transmitted orally. Now there seems to be statistical evidence implicating HPV in a higher incidence of head and neck cancers.
The good news is that the vaccine for girls works just as well on guys. The bad news is that it doesn't work if you've already contracted HPV. The reason being that HPV is one of those viruses that you never completely clear (like herpes) your body just represses it. Not sure if that's true forall variants of HPV or just the bad ones.
