Best time to visit HK??

Was wondering what time of year (weather and activities wise) is a good time to visit Hong Kong??
Are there certain times when accommodations are cheaper???

typically i find HK is the best to travel in March and November/December, always the best weather typically.
You avoid the typhoons and overly humid weather that wraps around it.

May is also good for cheap hotels because it is after easter and just before the school summer holidays start.. plus you get better weather than November/December since it gets quite cool. Remember not everyone/where have heaters!

The answer really varies.

For weather:
December / Jan / Feb are nice and mild without the humidity, Feb can even be a little "cool" 15C days occasionally. Depends what kind of weather you like. You can google average HK weather details to get more info. Definately June, July, August, September can be uncomfortable for heat, humidity etc.

For cheap hotels:
if you shop around on the web you can usually get good deals all year except April & October.

For Mongering: April & October are the best times overall because there are the big trade fairs in HK and also Southern China so the increase in "business" travellers attracts a massive increase in WG's.

i think it's best to go during Autumn. It's not too stuffy then.

You can get cheap accommodation if you book an serviced apartment for about 1 week or so. Saves more money than a hotel, and you get the privacy. Just try and avoid the school holiday season and you should be fine for cheaper rooms in HK.

I was there recently in December, and the weather was spectacular.  Wore jeans and a shirt each day, didn't need any outerwear.  Humidity was minimal.  Really very comfortable indeed.  The one day that I ended up wearing shorts, I had a lot of people around Central staring at me.  I don't think they were digging the casual 'Aussie' style.

It's not that they weren't digging the Aussi style, they were looking at you as if you were crazy because it's SOOOO COLD! out!  I went in March last year and wore shorts and polo shirts the whole time.  70s hitting 80s at times is very good for a NYer because it's Spring weather for us.  I was sweating looking at people with pants and jackets, HECK! I even saw a fur coat on a lady in the morning when it was about 74 degrees out!  I'm hot blooded so I wear shorts even during 65 degree weather, while the HKers are wearing down jackets.

doesn't it get unbearably humid after March?
i was told not to go before April 1. and afterwards wait till oct.

i was there in dec around xmas a few years ago.
there were a few days that was so warm and humid that i was wearing shorts/tshirt while everyone else was wearing a winter coat.

I was there last January for 6 days. I was surprised because I didn't check on internet what was the climate like during this period of the year.
I was a bit fresh (around 15-18°c) which didn't bother me because at the same time it was 2°c in France. I was weaing shirt with long sleeves all the time. I still prefer that king of weather than the really hot one (30°c).
What bothered me was the smoggy sky (sunny only one day) which prevented me to take good pictures of Hong Kong.
Hotel rates were Ok I think. I paid around 50 euros in the 3 hotels I've stayed: L'Hotel Nina and Convention center (Tsuen Wan), Empire Hotel (Causeway Bay and TST).

How did you manage to get such good rates (a little over HK$500 a night)?
