What happened in the cases I know of is that a professional soccer player goes for a night out with all his hanger-on friends.
Of course he's got plenty of cash to splash around and, because of his celebrity status, it's easy for him to pick up a hot chick
who will go back to his hotel room for sex. So far OK, that't the way of the world. But what happens next is that, after the
soccer player has finished with the girl, he leaves and all his mates pile in to take their turns with the girl. If it's non-consensual,
it's gang rape, pure and simple.
No one had ever heard of it before until there were 3 separate court cases for rape, all featuring a different soccer player.
Turns out it's quite common among soccer players and their friends and they call it 'Roasting'. There were no convictions
because maybe 10 guys said it was consensual and one girl said it wasn't. Plus her credibility with the court was already shot
after she admitted going to have sex with this guy within hours of meeting him. Also, the girls always had trouble positively
identifying the guys in a darkened hotel room. The soccer player was always in the clear because his sex was consensual and
he left the room before anything happened.
Even though there were no convictions, there was a huge scandal in the British press about hooligan soccer players.
