since we are on the topic of language, and dont flag me for swaying a bit off topic here, but why does some cultures, ie. english/chinese base their swear words off of sex, (ie. diu, fuck) while french and perhaps some others base it off of religion (ie. christ! tabernacle)

It is because in some countries/cultures religion stands strong, like in france.
In countries where religion (as in christianity, islam, judism) stand strong, words that are offensive in that context hurts more, like telling people satan will come take them (as we do where i come from! )

I can well imagine that chinese swear words are a lot about sex, as this often is a subject of tabu over there.

To the best of my understanding, very initially firing/shooting a cannon (ie those big guns used in early days of last century) was used to describe kissing as the movement of your tongue “to and fro” or” in and out” of your partner’s mouth is just like shooting a cannon where the gun retract backwards first and then bounce forward when cannon ball is shot out. The bumping and colliding of lips and tongues during kissing also resemble the scene of firing cannon balls against each other.

And the word cannon is phonetically spoken as “Ke Lun” by Cantonese (just like English word “bus” is now spoken as “Pa Si” and taxi spoken as “Dick Si” in Cantonese). So Da Ke Lun now means kissing and I think it is further evolved to Da Cha Lun.("Cha Lun"  means vehicle wheel) May be the spinning movement of kissing resemble the spinning of a wheel.
