Can anyone please tell me how big this scandal is?

Is this on par with the Hilton girl getting porked, or something more along the lines of an A list top billing actor or actress with sex tape surfacing?

It was pretty big - basically ruined Edison's career, and put Gillian's on hold for over a year.  So in commercial terms it was a nuclear bomb ... Edison lost a major sponsorship deal as a result.  

So it's more like a beauty queen losing her crown and modelling contract, than it would be like an actress being caught with her pants down.  In most cases celebs doing

Of course the newspapers had a field day and sold lots of print - but they do that with anything that catches the public imagination so it's a poor measure of impact ... the key difference here is the lasting financial impact on the participants, which is in addition to any social embarrassment they've gone through.  

Of course I have to say I'm not exactly close to the ins and outs of HK gen-Y fashion, so maybe someone who's closer to the current situation can add more colour!!

The one thing I know is that it hasn't really hurt his clothing line CLOT. That stuff is still way over priced, and drooled over by hipsters around the globe

In Hong Kong and most Asian countries the media and public seems a lot harder on celebrity scandals.  In America it'll be in the news for a few weeks but the general public doesn't really care.  For example, Paris Hilton, Janet Jackson and R. Kelly (who has sex with underage girls) have all had their scandals but no real damage has been done to their careers.

Actually it really depends on wht was the supposed image these girls were promoting before they got caught up in a scandal.  Most of the girls caught in the Edison Chen scandal were promoting themselves as that 'good girl who lives next door', one who doesn't act like a slut or whore. These girls were promoted as positive role models for youth of HK.  So of course when dirty laundry shows up, the public feels deceived, hurt, and embarrassed for believing their marketing.

But if a girl is already publicly known to have a less-than squeaky clean image, more like a party-animal, ie cecilia cheung, then the damage to her is lesser and doesnt last as long.  

Paris Hilton, Janet Jackson, others like them never encourage or promoted themselves as positive role models or the 'good girls' types to the public.  Coming out with personal pornos or wardrobe malfunctions are almost expected by the public bec of their party animal antics.
