Well, Platini is French and he is the one of the highest officials in soccer (forgot which org). But yea, Fifa says no replay and France is in. I like how they all blame the officials for missing the call.

Platini is chief of UEFA. Yup, that spells conspiracy doesn't it. The whole reason the seed these teams are so that France can be in.. what a whole lot of bullcrap. So much for fairplay...

Perhaps the only fairplay is in mongering.. well, maybe that is not too..

Australia didn't get a replay when they were cheated out of a quarter-final berth by Italy when their player dived during injury time and got a penalty kick and goal.  Anyway, I'd rather than France be branded as cheats and be booed every time they walk out onto the pitch, then being given a replay and winning (which will mostly happen) and claiming that they now deserve to be there.

That's true, but I think that if you look at it from the Irish players point of view, for some of them, it could be the last or only opportunity to play in the World Cup which for a footballer, is something no one would want to miss. So if the chance ever arose for a replay, even if France were to win in the end, I think that they would still give it a good go.

Although I think FIFA already rejected the chance of a replay.

I was looking at some youtube vids and came across a vid in which Ireland benefited from a ridiculous penalty - no replay there for Georgia.  Shit happens in sport.

Maybe this will be the necessary push for video technology? I mean just in specific situations like suspect goals; it should not slow the game down that much.

naaah - video technology will not come. FIFA does not want High-Tech. No video stuff, no microchip inside the ball. It would change the fundamentals of the game. The ref's decission is and will remain final.
Unfortunately this time the French team benefits from it...
