Im planning a trip for late december. airfare is around 1200+up (JFK to HKG), any suggestions on ways to land lower price airfare? also, any bros will be around that time? i plan to stay until mid-jan. cant wait! i havent been back in almost 2 yrs! hope i didnt post in the wrong section.

Try a Chinese agent and ask for UA, NW or Canadian carriiers.  These agents buy their tickets from consolidators who then pass the savings on to the consumers.  Sing, Cathay, China, EVA are noramlly higher probably due to the weak US $. That's how i got my lower airfare..( The airfares have rocketed again..) Another way to get a cheap flight is to wait until the last minute...It all depends on how flexible you are with your dates..

#10 Post at 18-11-2009 09:01  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Last I checked it was about 850ish for Cathay and 800ish for Continental.  I would take Cathay over continental anyday! better food, better chairs, much better entertainment and don't need to go to Jersey to fly.  Either way its 15.5 hours, I would NEVER take anything NOT direct flight anymore, way too spoiled now.  I'll pm you the place where I saw the prices.

#12 Post at 19-11-2009 07:55  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #11 sirtiger's post It is impossible to beat NYC Chinatown price to Hong Kong, this I guarantee you.  I can fly out via Cathay direct flight tomorrow at 10am if I wanted and would pay under 900 right now.  Find me a better deal ANYWHERE!  NYC Chinatown buys up these tickets in bulk and shared throughout Chinatown, prices are pretty much almost identical anywhere you go in Chinatown, unless you know them like I do, then you can get 10 bucks off at most.  Believe me, I have checked every nook and cranny and you can not beat Chinatown.  As for Korea or China air? Fuck them... 25 hours flying and waiting is not fucking fun, to save a few bucks?  You must be outta your mind if you are going to take layover planes, there is a reason why there are so many direct flights to HK now, people rather go that route than stop at anchorage, LAX and or Japan or seul.

I personally think its insane but some people rationalize that its worth it.

I recall meeting a gal who was on the same flight with me returning to the US. She had to fly from Bali to Columbus, Ohio. So here was her route: 1. Bali to Jakarta 2. Jakarta to TPE on China Air 3. TPE to SFO 4. SFO to ATL on Delta 5. ATL to Columbus on Delta I think the travel time and layovers came out to be almost 2 full days.
