I personally prefer the 'pissing shrimp/pawn' (literal translation)

The politically correct name for pissing shrimp is mantis shrimp

Dim Sum..? The most popular is at City Hall in Central. They still use the traditional dim sum carts.

Whatever happened to those carts.  Well I arrived in HK early 2000 I used to see them quite often in the restaurants I visited.  Great for me as a non-Chinese speaker since I could walk up to them and see what was on the cart and make my choice from there.  Then they disappeared all of a sudden.  Any reason why?

In the old traditional restaurants still serve them on a cart but are rare to find...

I think it's due to everyone wanting their food asap nowadays since pushing the dim sum carts to customers was too slow and inefficient.

I used to love the rush and panic at 2:30 when the dishes were a couple of dollars cheaper and they made the announcement over the loud speaker.

rarely, but doesn't mean that you shouldn't be careful.

i got food-poisoning last month from fish-congee in MK....I should have known better. (with fish congee, they often let the fish cook inside the bowl, so if the fish isn't fresh, watch out!)

It depends on the individual.  I love street food, and I have an iron stomach so I can dig it.  I was once with 2 buddies from NYC in HK, I was dying for some stinky tofu, spicy fishballs, stuffed jalepenos and fried beef.  We all ate the same stuff, I was ok, one had the runs and my other friend actually had his stomach pumped in a hospital.  I've never had any problems but those with weak stomachs?  I'd recommend Mc Ds, because that is all  my friend ate the rest of the time... he didn't even drink water... it was Coca Cola all the way.

No, I think you summed it up in a nutshell. Wish I had your stomach mate. I have travelled a bit and now always keep to clean food and take jacult every day - that has worked!!

I never left the toilet for the first month I was here, and I thought I would die.  Now, a few years on, I can eat all sorts of shit at those street stalls and never fall ill (touch wood!!).  For me, it's been about adapting.
