I always thought a HK ID doesn't need a China Visa to go to China. Only foreigners who have passports need a China Visa. My friend in HK always tells me it's so simple to go to Shenzhen. They have ...
A person in HK who holds a HKID and a china ID (通行正 is the official name) can enter and exit China mainland/HK very quickly. The thing is, people with a foreign passport can get a HKID because HK is a SAR (special administrative region, because it was under British rule till 1997), but you cannot get a China ID or China passport without giving up your original passport (your foreign one). One cannot enter China mainland with a HKID, and needs a China ID as mentioned before or a passport with a visa.
Yeah its strange with all these different laws, and somehow Macau allows people with just HKID to enter.
Hope this clears it up a bit with regards to entry to mainland China (ie shenzhen
) for ones with foreign passport.
