Yeah, that happens. I used to think that everytime i was given an option to be billed in either
HKD or my home currency, it would be better to choose the home currency option. Couldn't
be further from the truth...you get an unfavourable conversion rate in addition to some
facilitation fee and some other kind of administrative charge if you choose to do it in your
home currency.

This is not just HK but a general phenomenon. Mate of mine paid for his hotel in Frankfurt
by choosing the home currency option (GBP) instead of EURs. The difference amounted
to almost 30 EURs when he chose the home currency option!

So when given a choice, always best to choose to be billed in the local currency rather than
the home currency. Its really a trap set by the credit card people.
