Former talento Iijima Ai (profile) was discovered dead in her luxury Tokyo apartment yesterday afternoon. She was 36. A friend who had tried unsuccessfully to reach her for several days asked the building caretaker to let her in. They found Iijima lying face down on the floor of her living room. Local firefighters were on the scene minutes later and they reported that Iijima had been dead for several days. Police said there was no sign of a struggle and are investigating the death as either suicide or death from natural causes. The apartment is one of just four on the 21st floor of an office building minutes walk from the bustling Shibuya station. The area is a mecca for the young girls and women among whom Iijima became something of a cult figure in the 1990s. A former porn star, she made a successful jump to the regular TV variety circuit. But rather than try and hide her colorful past she turned it into the autobiography "Platonic Sex," which sold over 1.7 million copies. In the book she revealed that she had suffered both abuse and rape. Royalties from the book and a movie spinoff, together with her regular TV appearances brought her considerable wealth. But she was plagued with health problems, which she cited as her main reason for quitting show business last year. In February she said she was taking medication for a "mild neurosis." Through this and other occasional entries on her blog, "Porno Hospital," she kept fans up to date on her life and business dealings. She is said to have been planning to start a new business focused on selling condoms to women. She wrote extensively about World Aids Day at the beginning of this month and attended a related Rotary Club event in Tochigi Prefecture on December 6. A spokesman expressed shock at the news of her death, saying she had seemed in good form.

Police said Thursday that TV celebrity Ai Iijima died due to a yet-to-be-specified cause one week before her body was found at her condominium in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward on Wednesday.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department and other sources, a postmortem conducted Thursday could not pin down the cause of her death. Several types of pharmaceutical products such as the sleeping pill Halcion and cold medicines—all prescribed by doctors—were found in the condominium but no suicide note was found, they said.

R.I.P  She was pretty hot and looked like she was a fan to many.

it has been on the radio, news papaers and all major websites in HK.  

so i know it.  she was really popular in the early 90s.  

didn't think she was so attractive back then but look at her in her 30s.

The sad thing about HK media is that, they keep talking about the lives of other AV actresses, saying they get into the business for huge debts etc.

In Taiwan's report, since she is very famious one her news has on going for days, also mention that lately her money was gone because her agent. That she had to borrow money to live on.... This really makes me feel sad.....

yup.  same report in HK.  

it was mentioned that, she only had hkd10,000 to live for the next month and she went out spending hkd5,000 in just a few days.  

of course there are rumours of her deteriorating health, HIV, and even more bizzare they found a Taiwanese fortune teller actually saying she only can live until 36.

anyway i hope she have a happy and peaceful life in another world.

The second time she came to taiwan to confirm, he kindly told her she will live long...

I have never heard of her but deaths are always a sad thing. Especially during x-mas time. It seems she did a lot for the world and planned to do a lot more as well. RIP.

A friend of mine committed suicide on Xmas Eve a few years ago. They say a lot of people get
depressed around that time of year, especially if they have relationship problems. Very sad.

know some people passed away but not in Christmas nor committed suicide.  

i used to get depressed during big festivals until my early 20s.

now I just stay home, read the reports on 141, may go out for some beer or visits.
then come back home.  

just like a normal weekend to me really, except less traffic.
