Jollibees

I stumbled across my first Jolibees this week. Any of you old Fili hands know what the deal is there?  The smell was really thick, like they were frying in beef dripping or something...

the smell was like a moth to-a-flame burning... in central?

i'm a fan of jollibee and the only one i know of is located in central (i forget which mtr exit)
from what i can tell the spicy chicken is the same as the standard only they cover it with chili flakes
but not exactly sure what oil they use though

Famous fast food joint in the Philippines - chicken and burgers.

There's the one near World Wide House in Central.

The chicken is usually really good, and I also get them to put the spicy flakes on them. The burgers and spaghetti - not so good.

I think their chicken is better than KFC. For English speakers, this probably the only fast food restaurant in HK where everybody understands English, so comfort factor is very high.

Thanks fellas.  Let me give a little note context -

Was in HK Central (first business trip) and jollibees from a sight distance.  Wandered over out of curiosity because I've seen it referenced in a few Philippine threads.  As Yazoo mentioned I'd heard that the spaghetti is crap ( incredibly sweet sauce I understand ) but there was a very strong, heavy smell coming out of the shop.  I didn't go in because I fully expected my clothes to stink for days if I crossed the threshold!

So was curious as to whether they use e.g. Beef dripping to fry in, which might explain the smell, and if so whether that makes it unbelievably tasty as I could well believe.

Kinda imagined some experienced member might also comment on it's usefulness as a hunting ground

for one, i honestly cannot tell what type of oil they use in the deep fryer
the chicken taste good and that's all i care about
you can forget about dining in on sundays
i believe sunday's their busiest day from the sunday parade

which brings me to my second point,
the majority patrons at jollibee's are of philippians decent
they dine in at least pairs, where one finds the seats downstairs while the other queues for the food
i've never seen anyone attempt as they are mainly aunties (40+?)

not even obe will swing and miss here

All french fries used to be cooked in lard - and if you listened real hard, you could hear your arteries hardening.

But, oh, so much better than veggie oil.

The chicken is crispy outside, juicy inside - so maybe it is animal fat.  Until the veggie mafia raised their voice, McDonalds used to flavour their oil with beef tallow - they may be doing the same thing
