What if you can punt by using the Octopus?

Will you punt more? Do you think it is more convenient? Maybe you can even collect reward points?

Would you usually add that much credit to make it feasible for a couple of punts?  Do you register your card and link it to a bank card / account?  If so I wouldn't want that kind of audit trail out there in the ether.

Can you make that happen?

As long as you can unlink octopus from credit card/trail and just fill up by cash, that could potentially work.

why can't we pay taxis by octopus??

I read that they did try to work with the taxi companies. But for whatever reasons, they didn't follow through.

Very simple, taxis were loosing out on tips.
Same reason why they don't have a credit card system here in HK for taxis.

If people want to tip, they can put it on the cc or tell the driver to put it on the Octopus? I was driving for Uber and Lyft and I can tell you that people will tip if they want to no matter what. They would even dish out cash. I know that totally defeats the purpose of using a cc or Octopus. But guess what? Maybe people don't have enough cash to pay for the fare and tip. But using cc or Octopus may enable customers to tip more.

I myself don't usually tip unless the service warrants it. Tipping is not an entitlement.
