Its all a marketing ploy.  Anything that is a limited edition will sell well as schmucks buy them in the hope that a. they will be recognized using the item and think people will fawn over them or b. they keep the item thinking that it will increase in value.  I agree with hunter, its just a fucking mobile phone.
