Government report on US Commercial Sex Industry

Here is the report.

It's really odd to pick up a huge government funded report on an industry I have exposure to, and find their conclusions so totally opposite to my own. If it weren't so sad that they get so much wrong, it would be laughable.

It's the US government deficit at work, no doubt

No, I didn't read it all. But I did read the erotic massage parlor sections for a couple of the cities I'm familiar with, and I have to say the conclusions are laughable. Worst yet is that the report is riddled with quotes from law enforcement, and those are so disconnected from reality it isn't funny.

The report does at least concede that there are people working voluntarily (i.e.: without coercion) in the field. That makes it better than the typical report that decides that every prostitute working int the US has been "trafficked". Are there trafficked girls? Certainly. But does it define the industry? In my opinion, absolutely no.

I tried

I tried to to start reading it.., but gave up quickly.

As soon as I saw they 1) focused on trafficking (Christ, a tiny blip in the US industry) and 2) lumped Child Porn into the same report as Commercial Sex I knew the report was starting with very twisted views of the industry -- and hoping to prove their points.

Anyway.. to be transparent, I DIDNT read it far yet.  Maybe there is some good stuff..., but I need to see the Cliffs Notes version first to be sure.

No, no need to read it, other than perhaps to understand the mindset of those in the USA who are against sex work (which is pretty much everyone in authority).

I think the notion that "all working girls are trafficked and are victims" has become kind of self-perpetuating in the US. Too bad, really.
