Driving around HKG

I am thinking of being a little independent and hiring a car to do a day trip all over hong Kong. Might be able to pepper the trip with a visit to a  few WG along the way.  lol .

Is it doable?  I enjoy driving, have driven in Cities and Europe before so that wont be an issue.

What do you think?

instead of starting so many threads based on your impending visit, may I suggest you ask all your questions in a single thread ?

Plonkey,

I understand you are excited but take a deep breath mate...
Have fun in HK and Macau and then write some reports.

Plonkey, this is a sex forum just in case you have forgotten.

I know Twice would be happy to book your flights and accommodation ...

Obe

don't bother, you are going to spend all your spare time looking for a parking meter. And you will get really blue balls in the process and shoot as soon as you get into a walkup. Trust me, take the MTR and relax. Hong Kong is NOT for driving around in, except at nights after 10pm.

Agree

HK sucks for cars.  Buses, taxis, and MTR are far, far better for getting around.

Yeah I understand the traffic is hectic around the main part but  when I look at the map there are places like Pak Wai, looks like there is a marina there or something, and SAI Kung Town,  and then there is a place called Garden Farm Golf Centre. etc etc. it seems like there are  a few rural town or villages about.  There arent any train lines out that way and having a car for a day might offer a little more flexibility. Ive got no idea what's out there. Is it congested in those areas like the city? I have no idea ,.

Sitting in a car doesnt bother me. Its not unusual to for me to go on a 3 day raod trip in car or on  bike and cover  over 2000 km..
But sure the train and buses are great for the most part.

Yeah I know its a sex forum but  the post is in the blah blah section and Ill search the DB for any outlying wg to pay a visit along the way.

btw, are you comfortable with driving on the right side of the car? it takes a little getting used to in my experience, which I admit isn't much.

I think from what he has said he is Australian  so that parts not an issue. If he sticks to the out lying areas he probably will be OK but he will be fighting or paying big bucks to park the thing in the main area's.
HK is not that big so I would stick to the MTR and Taxi's it "might" cost a bit more but would be so much easier.

Yeah thats what I was trying to work out if its worthwhile hiring a car to go out to places away from the city or just get public transport. Sorry I dont know enough about the frequency of buses etc in those  places. It doesnt seem as if there is a train line out that way either.

Driving on either side of the car isnt an issue and  yes I am in Australia..Same side of the road as HKG.

thanks for the helpful replies.

The bus system is pretty easy.  6 or 6A is a good start.  Sit at the top front for a scary ride.  Go to the Central Bus Terminal and take a look.

Hehe..  Funny cause it's true.

Everytime I went to Stanley I took the bus and sat Top front (on purpose). Great views, but man... Felt like a near-death experience more than once.
