Harassed at Venetian Casino in Macau

Dear all,

During my trip to Macau Venetian Casino last year (with HK and Macau friends), 2 youngters (around my age) came to us and followed us for nearly 30-45 minutes .. telling us to go to their casino even if we're not gambling .. saying things like better food, girls , commission etc ..

Had a hard time shoo-ing them off .. What's fellow bros' advise?

Planning to return back to Macau for a day trip (and gamble) but am pretty skeptical about this .. I'm only 19 yo :/

Just ignore them. Pretend that you don't see them and that they're not there.

You must be at least 21 to gamble in Macau, they changed the rules 2-3 months ago.

Grand Lisboa and Lisboa almost never check your ID.  Just walk in.  Don't play the slots, you will get seriously bad beat if you hit the jackpot and cannot collect.

Never talk to anybody you don't know in a casino if you don't know how to handle the above situation.  If they talk to you, just pretend they don't exist like what Freelancer said.  Eventualyl they will go away.

Thks fellow bros for your tips!!!

Was VERY surprised that Macau had increased the age limit to 21yo !!!!

Hopefully, like what markreyes said, they don't check ID! I still have my 'souvenir ID' that I have kept it when I was underage back then - do you think I should use that to gain access to casino if they ever ask?

Sure, gonna pretend they don't exist.

I heard stories like .. if you go to the washroom, a group of people might be 'targetting' you and force you to sign a loan paper and thereafter, they'll demand you to pay the loan stated in the paper (IOU)

Am pretty scare if I go to Shen Zhen/ Macau to "play" as I will be traveling solo

In many of the older, and to some extent, the SJM Casinos, they are very lax in checking ID.  In particular, the Hotel Lisboa and Grand Lisboa (via the bridge entrance from Hotel Lisboa), I have never seen the guards check ID.  Some of my friends look extremely young and are checked in the Wynn, Venetian, etc, but never in these two.

The town is full of casinos, so if one fails, try another entrance, and if that fails, move to the next casino.  Im sure that if you are determined enough to get in you will.  Wynn is generally the toughest, I've never seen one of my very young looking friends given a free pass .. he's always checked without fail.  If that fails, try this method,

Go to Starworld Hotel and Casino (next to Wynn)
Go to the left bank of elevators across the main entrance.
Select 5th Floor, which is a Suncity-junket floor, don't worry that you're not a member
Get off on the fifth floor and take the escalators down to the 3rd floor (Poker Room)
And to the second floor (main gaming floor)

I've never seen a guard along this route, some flaw in their security.

Macau is very safe, you wont have the above things happen to you if you don't randomly talk to people.  That being said, some shady things can happen, but thats only if you talk to people you don't know, get involved in scams, or believe people's hard luck stories.  Most people in Macau are degenerates ,and those that approach you on the floor or especially just outisde the gaming area or hotel should ring serious alarm bells.  Ignore these people unless they are employees of the casino AND on official duty in uniform and badge.  There is some more leeway here when it involves poker players as talking is part of the game.  But if somebody sits down next to you when playing blackjack or bacarrat and starts trying to chat you up, 99.9% they are trying to scam you.

Shenzhen is another world unto itself, and I don't recommend going there alone if its your first time and/or you don't speak the language.

Thks markreyes!

I am actually thinking of just visiting the shopping mall beside the customs in Luo Hu in ShenZhen, do you think it's worth the trip to go there?

About the casino, doubt I will have any problem as I norm look around early-mid 20's .. Wonder if it's a blessing or a curse

How about the minimum bets? Thinking of playing bacarrat/BJ - and if I win lots of money, gonna get better quality of girls for BJ (bad pun intended )

HAHAHAHA

There are 4 kinds of people that will stalk you in Macau casinos.

1) Junket agents
They are groups of well-dressed young men, they will ask you to go to VIP rooms or other casino to gamble.
They promise higher rolling chip turnover, and lots of freebies like hotel rooms, cigarettes, wine , etc.
They usually target high rollers.
Just ignore them, or say "I have no money".

2) Pimps
Not as common as in the past, but still have a few of these pimps lurking around.
They will stalk high rollers, and when the gamblers win money and seems to be leaving, the pimps will approach and offer WGs e.g virgins, air-stewardess, models, etc.
but they are just regular WGs at exhorbitant prices.
They will target any men.
Just ignore them, and they will back off.

3) Money changers
They carry pouches around their waists and are ready to exchange high amount of HKD / RMB.
They usually target Asians.
Ignore them.

4) Cons
They target gamblers who are losing.
They will stand behind you and give advice on how to win at gambling.
If you heed their advice and really win, they will take the 2nd step.
Ask you for money and help you gamble, then they will take 10% of your winnings.
Usually they will only target mainlanders.

For lower minimum bets on mass gaming floors stick to the sjm or local casinos. I all American or even star world will have much higher minimums across all tables.
