Prepaid Sim Cards

Hey Bros..

I'm leaving for HK in about 1.5hours to go to the airport...flight set to take off in about 6 hours.

Just curious as to which telecommunications provider has the best prepaid sims in terms of bang for the buck...

As I am planning to stay in HK I will eventually join a monthly plan, but I'm waiting for the Iphone4...so I need a sim for the time being...

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Also..I was wondering if I could get data packages on prepaid sims?

i usually use PEOPLES when i'm in HK. but generally, local HK calls are cheap, HKD 0.15 per minute, it's actually cheaper to call than SMS.

you can buy PEOPLES (or any prepaid SIM) in any 7-11 store, there's one at the arrival lobby of the airport

Thought that data packages are not available. It definitely would be better if they were as iPhone users really can't use their phone other than in wifi since the charges willbe astronomical

The three.com looks like it's available in convenience stores like 7 eleven.  Never having used one of these prepaid cards before wondering if it's plug and play.  Just bring an old bb and insert te card?

Dude, I presume you will be pounting in china on and off.
Get the 2 in 1 monthly plan from China Mobile. You 1 get one HK and china in 1 sim card.
You definitely need one.

The iphone only good for u in HK....so purchase that package separately.

from experience bb works but not fully, no BIS or BES.  You can still use google mail, google maps and other 3rd party apps but not the stuff that comes from the bb server.  on a previous trip I had an iPhone with me and used a 3 data sim which worked fully as normal, pity that normal is about 7 hours hours battery life max (sometimes less).  I think China mobile is 2 g only which is slower but if you turn 3g off on the iphone it might actually last most of the day with out being charged.

as you can tell, I love the iPhone interface and apps, hate the fucking useless battery and signal.

So if you have an old iPhone you can buy a local sim that will fit and also get Internet and there is either 2g or 3g. And so the phone will work and due to Internet can get emails etc.  Is it as simple as that.

Already? Guess i made it in there just under the cut since when i got mine a month ago. it was still "people's.
No wonder they were able to do the "china mobile 2 numbers one sim" kind of thing for when you cross into China. That way it cuts down on roaming fees. It was a genious idea.!!

I just raise this old thread since i have similar problem, but just for about 9 days stay in HK.

http://www.three.com.hk/website/ ... 710594&lang=eng

the offer seems still available and sounds quite nice (compared to rates in europe )

Are there any better offers? Any experience with speed/connectivity of the mobile internet with that provider?

Although I don't approve of raising old threads like this, I do think that this question comes up SOOOOO often that there should be a sticky guide to phone SIMs in HK/Macau/China.

And before anyone asks me to write it... no.
