Following an investigation led by Beijing police from April 20 to May 30, 48 karaoke bars were closed for being involved in prostitution and other illegal activities. Among these were three well-known establishments: Ming Hang, You Tang and China Town. It was also revealed that certain establishments were shut down on account of "obscene strip dance performances", while others were closed for failing to implement an IC card system. Wan Chai Love KTV bar and Korea Fang KTV bar were also investigated by police and punished as a consequence of the 110 public complaints filed against them. In the next stage of the investigation set to take place this summer, police plan to increase the number of KTV bar inspections in order to improve methods of control and safety.

It seems like no more naked KTV for a while in Beijing.

On September 17th, Beijing police announced they had succeeded in cracking four organised prostitution rings, detaining 112 suspected criminals (including 27 foreign prostitutes).

Public reporting and early investigations indicated the gangs solicited customers by distributing flyers near high-end establishments. After 20 days of investigating and collecting evidence, the police concluded that four men nicknamed "Xiao Jun", "Da Bo", "Zheng Ge" and "Bao Ge" led four separate prostitution rings, with a total of 45 key members.

Police revealed the gangs would typically arrange staff to distribute flyers near hotels or restaurants, using calls or text messages to send prostitutes to clients’ hotels. The case, which involves the highest single number of foreign arrests in Beijing, is currently still under investigation
