#4 Post at 10-3-2012 10:27  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #1 JeSun's post Agreed JeSun.  The American palate knows little about real food from across the pond anyway.  Whenever I see a new listing of the 'best of' anything, my first question is 'who wrote this ?'  My criteria in choosing a new restaurant, look for only the nationals eating there who represent the type of food offered; i.e. all Chinese in a Szechuan restaurant, or all Vietnamese in a Pho restaurant, etc.  It is usually a pretty good indicator that the food will be more faithful to the original.  Also a menu in all foreign characters is a good hint for the authentic food. Just my thoughts. "He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."

#5 Post at 10-3-2012 13:24  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L This list made me laugh.  The best Chinese food joints are hole in the wall places, and as Blue_Pacific says, full of nationals.  There are couple of places in LA that my China friends insist on going to when they are in town.  It's basically the same food as on the mainland, but fewer bones.  And the service is the same too.  Things just come out of the kitchen whenever they are ready.

My whole family agrees however that in terms of quality that the best Chinese food we've ever had was actually located in Vancouver BC.
