Where to go and eat

Hey guys

I'm coming back to HK for 10 days and wanted to know where would you recommend I go and eat in the Mong Kok area? I like to try all the food HK can offer (planning to get FAT!!!!) Also I got a iphone 4 and uses micro sim. Is it easy to get hold of a pay as you go micro sim and what the best network?

If you just stay 10 days, I'd say all neyworks are similar. Go to any 7 eleven, say you need a prepaid card, and they'll ask you if you want normal sim or micro sim.

For food in Mongkok, honestly, I've never found it a good place to eat. And there are tons of people everywhere.

For a good Chaan Chan Tang try Kai Kee at 163 Portland Street. Open late and a wide range of typical hong kong "diner" food plus good fishball noodles and BBQ items.

Gwailo friendly with and English menu with photos. Not far from 37D, its always one component of my mongering excursion to the dark side

Keep on mongering

Don't suggest Tung Chung as it is far from Mongkok and there are no wgs there. It is barren. Waste of money to go there.

Since the OP will be in the Mongkok, he can find many places to eat from Mongkok on down to Yaumatei, then Jordan, until Tsimshatsui. In those 4 adjacent districts there are many choices of a great food from holes in the walls places to 5 star restaurants.

Plus if he does it right he won't get fat from all the eating because of all the walking and shagging he will be doing as he gets around these 4 districts. There won't be a need to take taxis, metro, or buses as everything can be reached via walking.

In my opinion, one of the best dim sum places is right there in Mongkok!  It's called Tim Ho Wan and it is actually a "michelin starred" restaurant, located at Kwong Wa Street.  Very small restaurant and very hard to get in, but really great steamed shrimp dumplings,  bbq pork buns, and pork sui mai.  If you're looking for high end...two places that I really like are found in TST...Hutong near the waterfront is the absolute best place to eat and watch the 8pm light show at the harbor, and the soft shell crab covered in red peppers is great!...the second is the buffet at the Mira Hotel.  There are also some really good restaurants along Kimberly Rd, good but also cheap...and they are right across from the Kimberly Court for great mongering.

If you are looking for good food Mong Kok isn't exactly the first place that comes to mind... please use the website Hunter mentioned and explore Central/Soho/LKF and Causeway Bay...

If you are mongering and not looking for high end places to eat, find yourself a bar girl and take her to dinner.  They know all the best places.  Some of the best food I've had in HK was like that, and usually pretty cheap.  I also enjoy the Indian food in HK, and don't forget TST.  There are some good places there too.

Could be a risky proposition if he picks up a PRC/HK bar girl and she takes him to a shark fin soup/birds nest restaurant.   Don't laugh as there is an infamous opens late into the night, shark fin restaurant in Wanchai that gets a lot of high rollers who go there for late night munchies after ktv/clubbing.

If he sticks with a Thai/Filipino/Indo bar girl then he is safe as the Thai, Filipino, and Indo restaurants are very tasty and affordable.

Yeah, my experience is generally with Thai girls.  One took me to a place and ordered things that weren't even on the menu.  Very tasty!  She turned out to be too!
