Are you a hardcore Jacky Cheung fan?

Although I hate to admit it, I am like a little girl when it comes to Jacky Cheung.  I love his music, his stellar performances, and own every single album he has ever made since the mid 80's.  Whenever he is at Atlantic City, I am the first one to get the best seats and I have even set my work schedule a few times just to see him in concert when in Hong Kong or China.  I have driven up to Canada just to see his concert, stay overnight at a hotel (without mongering) and driven back the next morning.

Just wondering how many of you guys are into his music?

The only thing I complain about him is that his songs are so hard to sing well in karaok... I prefer Leslie cheung.

But to be honest, I don't learn to much of Cantonese songs...

Jacky is awesome.........
How do you know if one singer has a unique vocal??........Go to Karaoke..if wannabe select his/her song and they do sound alike....means the singer voice is not that unique.

But Jacky.......so far I have yet to heard vocal alike.........

Talkin bout this HK singer, don;t u guys think nowaday......singer stars can just be picked or scouted from any Tom, Dick or Harry on the street??.......All these newcomers sing like shit.......

Another voice which catch my attention is Hacken Lee... not sure the spelling is right though.

Yea, all these new singers are like actors trying to sing.  Most are pretty unsuccessful at it too.  Although, Andy Lau turned over and sang OK due to the fact that he had incredible song writers.  I am so tired of the new music coming out of HK although the Mainland is starting to put out some wicked tunes.

Hacken Lee is OK when it comes to his music.  His writers are terrible but his voice is incredible.  When you compare successes with Andy Lau, Andy has had more success because his writers were just that good even though Andy Lau took years to develop a mediocre voice.

I like Jacky's songs;

As for Leslie and Andy, I think I'll skip; and that's includes Anita Mui

For those who grew up in HK, I guess everyone would enjoy songs of  Sam Hui and Alan Tam more; but of course these are my personal comments;

I really like(d) Anita's voice - the power and the delivery, much better
then most of the male singers around now days.
Also liked Roman Tam for the same reason.
Such pitty they've both left us ...

That's a sure sign that you're getting old bro.       Didn't your father say exactly the same
thing to you when you were a kid. One of the very first albums I ever bought was by Bob Dylan
in the mid-sixties. I still remember my father saying I was an idiot and that Bob Dylan couldn't sing.
Well, 40 years later, he's a legend and still recording - and he's still one of my all-time favourites.

Personally, I never listen to anyone who started singing after 1975.

Absolutely,  the original band was the only thing that HK ever had that came close to a real band that people actually noticed.  Ka Kui had great potential as a singer and songwriter, huge lost that he died much too early.  The band scene would probably be a lot different today had he continued.  When Paul Wong went solo, I liked all his songs, some were much heavier, and with interesting content both musically and lyrically.

Andy Lau?  okay I admit I listened to his earlier songs, but now his songs seem all the same, quite boring if you ask me.  Hacken Lee the same.  Eason is good and can handle a very broad range of styles, this allows him to change and offer something different everytime.  Jackie's old songs were a staple back in school,  good, going to his concert this week.

Most of the other minor singers and groups are just plain sad: people who make money not from selling albums but by being a celebrity and selling themselves to advertising.  It's all commercialized without any attention to talent or music style.  What is so interesting about listening to a 3 minute song that sounds the same as a hundred others with the same freakin structure with non-sensical or sugar coated lovey-dovey lyrics.   The answer:  so that you can easily belt it out in the karaoke when you're drunk and trying to impress your friends or getting over your ex-girlfriend.

Jacky Cheung's old songs are great, but I feel age is getting the best of him. He doesn't have the lung strength to sing well anymore.

On the other hand, all the crap new stars coming out still pale in comparison.
