#1 Post at 17-5-2011 08:40  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Fake booze bust in China - 10000 bottle A head's-up to our China Bros.  An article today in the South China Morning Post mentions of a police bust yesterday that found 10,000 bottle of fake booze (Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels, etc.).  All intended, they say, for the clubs and discos.    Now what is scary is that some of the booze didn't just use cheap grain-alcohol, but actually methanol and other substitutes!  Doesn't take much of that to make you bloody sick - or worse. They didn't know what I was talking about and would not exchange it for a new bottle of fresh Corona. Just make sure you order something you are familiar with and then if there is a complaint, go find the boss and complain.

Most times, the boss knows very well that he's sellling fake booze!!   He's the one who stands to gain the most from doing so! Many of these places in China and HK can get away with these behaviors because they know most of their customers don't know what the drinks are supposed to taste like.

The taste is surreal, unless you are a beer expert, there's no way to differentiate it. I still have 1 box at my SZ home. In KTV/Karaoke/Pubs, environment is so dim n dark that most of the customers wouldnot be able to spot it, needless to say, when u are drunk, a person can fill its mouth with pee, thinking it was Chivas (btw, chivas does taste like one). I recall a news item a month or so ago about 11 people killed due to fake booze.  Scary.

He knows a guy who was depressed and finally gave up and decided to commit suicide.  He went to the pharmacy in China and bough some poison.  He drank the poison, but he never died.  It turns out, the poison at the pharmacy was fake. His friend decided to throw him a party to celebrate his survival and second chance at life.  The suicidal guy drinks some wine, after drinking the wine, the guy dies.  Turns out the wine was fake.
