New AIDS-like disease spreading across China

Bros, take note of a new HIV-like disease spreading across China. Reports claim that it can passed on via SALIVA and SWEAT, and now it's here in Guangdong and HK.
http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/ ... in-china-53864.html

Chinese versions:

http://the-sun.on.cc/cnt/news/20110404/00410_097.html

Chinese medical community has been blaming the very real symptoms on the psychological "Fear of AIDS"... recently they finally dropped this BS and sent patient blood samples to a medical lab in US for testing.

It's been said that it's far more contagious than the traditional AIDS and is comparable to the dreaded SARS. Take care...

"However, the disease seems to be highly contagious and can spread by contact via any bodily fluid—through kissing, shared utensils, sweat, and even protected sex."

Makes me not want to return to HK to punt anymore, but its still a relatively new finding.

I remember when SARS hit China and Hong Kong around 2003, people didn't want to travel to China and Hong Kong. SARS was extremely contagious. If you caught it, there was ONLY around 35 to 50% chance you will surive depending your age. The doctor who discovered the disease died from it.

I know people who did NOT monger or punted at all during this period. Friends in China and HK told me there were girls around but NO Johns around.

I know plenty of people who canceled vacations to China and Hong Kong and lost money for the cancellation. Planes flights were canceled and some were traveling half empty. They couldn't find enough English teachers to come to China.  I myself didn't want to go back to China and stayed away.

If this NEW AIDS virus is like SARS, I predicted it will be SARS like all over again. VERY, VERY few will be traveling back to China and HK. I remember the Chinese economy started to slow down and stocks started to drop. Later the economy recover when the disease was stopped.

Yes I agree with you. The BBC article makes a different point.

I have never heard of The Poch Times so I do not know how reliable it is.

But I would imagine news like this would appear on the local news promptly.

The post is meant to provide information from all points of view, not just what I personally believe. It would not be fair if I post only links that support my own views as this would not provide complete information.

If you choose to believe the Chinese medical community's argument that "it's all in the mind," then ignore this post and continue to punt as you normally do. Personally I think the concept of "AIDS phobia" is a load of BS that is created by Chinese doctors to hide an epidemic that's starting to get out of hand.

Ahem... I am sure if something like that was real the CDC and WHO would be right on top of it... Last time there was a suspected case of swine flu in HK the quarantined an entire hotel in Wanchai for like a week... actually might have trapped some bros who were punting...

The problem is with China not with Hong Kong.

When SARS hit China around 2002-2003, the gov't first tried to cover it up. There were many reports of people dying and they didn't know why.    I was even in China during that time but there was NO News of it. Then News started to come out and more people start to die. Finally, China admitted and started to give out information but I left China a month before. When it started to spread, measures were started to control it.  Like before there WASN'T a check for temperature when crossing the boarder in and out of China to HK.  Some people were quarantine for a few days. People started to wear mask.

It's SARS, Bird flu and now Super AIDS.

Well the BBC article is dated Feb 2010, so more than a year ago... Haven't heard anything about this yet, so even if it's real it's not spreading at an epidemic rate... SARS was different, people were dying within weeks of catching it... I am sure that such reports of the mystery illness have been reported to the Western World and studies have been carried out. Nowadays governments are so afraid of a Worldwide pandemic that every strange case is looked at. If people here at 141 found info about it surely top government scientists have as well...

IF it sounds to good (or bad) to be true it probably isn't!

By Chris Hogg
BBC News, Shanghai

Hundreds of people in China believe they might have a new disease with HIV-like symptoms, but doctors suggest their illness could be the result of a mental rather than a physical condition.

I for one remain skeptical.

seriously if it could be transmitted through sweat and saliva, i think not only should/would punters be worried but athletes, gym members, even shaking hands with someone would be a concern right?

If this were true, I think it'd be safe to say 90%+ of the population would already have been infected.
