Don't take this the wrong way. I just wanted to know if many of us on here are Sex Addicts or just Hobbyist? I am not sure if I can call myself a Hobbyist as I monger quite frequently and don't know if I can just stop cold turkey.  I just love women too much! As I am sure many of you do too!

What is the definition of a Hobbyist? We just play on occasion? Because if that is what it is then I must be a border line Addict!

There no such thing as sex addiction, it's just something high priced shrinks made up to increase their income and give celebrities an excuse to act badly. Personally I don't need an excuse like addiction to cover my misdeeds.

I agree with Atomic3d on how sex addiction is defined.  I don't like the word Hobbyist.  Hobbyist to me is an excuse to put some psychological distance between the girls and you.  It makes me think the guy is like a collector of some sort, you know, collect things (girls).  Sounds creepy to me when I read or hear this term.

I just go if I am in the mood that is all, just like when your SO sleeps with you when she is in the mood.

Sex addiction is not some sort of mental disease. You don't need to fix it. When you get old and can't get a hard on anymore, then you're cured. If you're mentally ill, you can still be sick till the day you die.

I would disagree.  I mongered heavily from 2001-2004 and got to the point at which I could not get through the day without a session.  I started an active mongering website, organised a group of about 25-30 like-minded (and similarly addicted) guys, and arranged occaasional meet-and-greet cocktail parties with local escorts.  The hunt for the next new babe was consuming most of my time, energy, and consciousness.  It was an addiction in the sense that I could not break the cycle, and it was crippling my ability to function in real life.  It was not, however, an excuse to deny responsibility.

I finally went "cold turkey" for a month and dropped all of my connections.  When I inevitably started again, I was careful to try to keep things in control.  It's one reason that I am not very active on this board.  I fear getting sucked in again.  For those of us with addictive personalities, it can be a problem...

This sort of behaviour falls under the umbrella of obsessive compulsive disorders, it's more about collecting rather than a physical imperative, perhaps linked to a high sex drive.

If your addicted to a substance there are very painful withdrawl symptoms that accompany going "cold turkey". You can't just enjoy an occasional drink if your addicted to alcohol for example.

I would say you fall under doghead's definition of a hobbyist, a term by the way that I also dislike. I haven't yet come across a term I think adequately describes out pastime, Ill have to look around for a good term.

i actually think hobby is a good word for it. i normally only punt shen on business trips but then whenever the occasion arises. there are no withdrawal symptons if i do not punt so cannot be an addiction for me. but i think about it for weeks beforehand, read this forum every day,... but all only because i wsnt to. hobby to me is the closest word tgat matches this

i just like sex and if it is available i will take it whether it involves paying or not. If it is not available i don't get withdrawal symptoms so maybe that makes me a hobbyist then

I would have to say Hobbyist. I will never rufuse it pay or not but I don't have withdrawl pains when I go to the US for a few weeks and do without it due to the expense and diffuculty to find.

I'm addicted to the freedom that comes with punting. Not so much the sex itself, but the ability to dispense with the truckloads of bullshit that civvies love to dish out.

It has made it very difficult for me to function in normal civvie situations i.e. bars, clubs, bookstores. lol

I don't know if it's quite addiction or just an antisocial disorder.

I love sex.  Without sex I can't study or work.

I think have ranted about this before...

ALL guys are sex addicts. It is genetic. Deep down in our prehistoric DNA is a desire to spread our seed to ensure the survival of the species. Sure, we wear pants now, and stepping out of our home/cave is not quite as dangerous as it was 100000 years ago, but no matter how domesticated we get by modern society, we will never be rid of the desire to have sex with women (at least I hope not... What would be the f#$king point of it all?)

Just look at certain groups who 'deny' their natural urges. Catholic priests... not really working out for them. Certain cultures where sex is seen as taboo (I won't mention specifics - don't want to offend) who generally turn into sadistic freaks if they are ever let off the chain.

Make no mistake... all your friends who are happily married and only have sex with one women... they are just whipped by society!

In my case I would like to make a difference between an addicition to sex and an addiction to excitement.

I am not addicted to the physical aspect of sex, that is having an orgasm every day. There are times I don't have sex for 2 weeks and I don't have a problem with it.

I do think I am addicted to the excitement of having sex with NEW girls. This is surely an addiction that drives me to payed sex. Otherwise I could have sex every day at home, but I just like to have new women regularly

if you claim you're a sex addict, that implies that you'll fuck anyone. hobbyist implies that you're very casual about the whole thing and can easily live with or without it. therefore I'd consider myself as having a moderate addiction to sex with beautiful women.

Fortunately there are so many beautiful women in HK I've never had to put that to the test... One of the key benefits of P4P is that I dont have to f*ck anything I dont like.

I would actually consider this a kind of sex addiction.......as if its done on a daily basis.......
