Just wondering whether any Indonesian bro's out there can help me out.
I need to confirm an address in Jakarta, one which i got from Alibaba.com. I need to confirm there is an actual address before i fly out there to pick up goods.
If some bro can pm me, i will pm them back re details of supplier... and maybe when i am in Jakarta I can take u out as a thankyou.

Can Google map gives you clue of where you are heading?

There's also limitation to what you can find in google maps.  The street name might be there but not the building name/number.  Or it could be in a building with fictitious room number.  Another possibility is that the given address exists but is not the actual address of the company itself.


If they're pulling a scam, I don't think they will agree on a meet up in their office in Jakarta.  Before going there, as long as you can talk to them through phone (preferably through their office landline and can send fax to their machine), then I don't think there's anything to worry about.  (Well, as long as you don't send money before hand.)

I tried google maps... prob is that i dont really understand how addresses in Jakarta work, and google dosnt recognise the address submitted.

Thanks for the info bro.. they all wanted me to tt money to them and would not accept paypal or LC's. However when i asked re visiting them, them and buying it direct, they were initially evasive however they later provided addresses and welcomed my visit.
I guess worse case.. i'll go to Jakarta to play..

Why don't you phone/visit the commercial attache at the Indonesian Consulate in Causeway bay?

They'll figure it out for you.

and to me - this sounds too much like those Nigerian scams - so even if you go there personally, I'd be VERY careful still.  You're gonna be alone in a strange country dealing with strangers - not a good combination!

Thanks for the idea SEAJ, i'm actually in the land of oz.. so Causeway bay is alittle far.. but i'll see if there is one in Oz.
funny thing is that there are 3 different companies in Indonesia, one in Jakarta, one in north sumatra and one in south sumatra, all quoting very similar prices.
The only reason why i am cautious is that the prices quoted in that region is less than 1/3 of the price in oz.

Just google the adresses of the Embassy (if you're in Canberra) or the consulates if you're in Sydney/Perth and ??  They've got a few consulates down there.

Phone them and ask to make an appointment to see the Commercial Attache - they're always glad to meet "Locals" who they can put into their reports as having met and discussed "business" in Indonesia with!!  

So act all big shot with plans to do big business etc - they may even spring a lunch for you whilst you find out what you need to find out!
