PlayStation Phone confirmed

Posted on Nov 1 2010 at 03:36 AM

ubergizmo: http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/arch ... hone_confirmed.html

It is now concrete - the PlayStation Phone (aka Zeus), subject to many rumors and speculation over the weekend, is real, ready and waiting to hit the market. While the prospect of this smartphone arriving on the scene does entice the taste buds of geeks everywhere, Masaru Kato, Sony’s chief financial officer, has all but confirmed its existence by saying (via an interpreter), “As for the new PSP product, as mentioned, I know that you are not asking me to tell you when we will be coming out with a new product, but there is a gaming market based on [the] cellphones, and there are many changes that are being seen [with] Nintendo, as well as ourselves, in the field of the product for the gamers. And there are smartphones and others or even cellphones gaming markets are very popular here in Japan. So the market itself is very... expanding.” It would be interesting to see how the final device will shape up in terms of processing power, quality of games as well as smartphone capability.

when it comes to these devices .. battery life is important. def beats bringing a phone, and nds around with you. But what would make it or break it is ability to be pirated .. ahhaha ... hope it doesn't go the way of the ngage...

I'm assuming that the picture's of a prototype and not the actual phone

I would seriously buy this though.  One main point for me though... will it be compatible with previously downloaded games?

If this phone is no bigger than a PSP Go, has at least the same functionality of an X10, andis compatible with all my downloaded PSP content then I would get it on day one.  If not...I'll think about it

I wonder what network will offer this type of phone and whether this will only be in Japan?

Interesting twist in the mobile telecom industry, if i recall it right Nokia did something like this a few years back with their N-Gage Series.. so with playstation coming into the field, how do they position themselves then? will it be something like a psp that you can use to call someone? or will it be a phone wherein as an additional bonus, you can play "better" games with it.

The N-Gage failed because it was ugly and it's games catalogue sucked

This is where Sony could do a better job, as they've already got a huge catalog of games if the device is compatible with them.

I'm assuming that the phone in the picture is a prototype though.  That keyboard will have to look a lot nicer when they release the final version

Im just puzzled at how theyre gonna put in keypads/keyboard on this thing with the game controllers. Maybe they could have a game mode setup and a "mobile phone setup" otherwise i think i might be texting or dialing someone through a touch screen on this thing
